How do you guys use your jerk string in your spread? I just recently started trying this. The first time, I connected it to about 3 decoys. The second time I tried it, I just connected it to one decoy.

I also take a piece of brick that has a hole in it, run my line threw it, and place the brick about 1/3 of the way out, this keeps the cord under water.

But here is my main question, how do you work it? When the ducks are circling checking out your spread do you give small jerks every 3 seconds, or a big tug only one or twice, or what?

Any thoughts appreciated.

I use two in the in the spread. one cord has 3 decoy's on it that is connected to a mojo 20 yards out on the edge of the spread. The other on is the jerk-a-spread that holds a dozen dek's. that goes in the mass of decoy's. When I'm trying to get the attention of the birds the jerk-a-spread is worked back and forth quite a bit. Once they are looking I switch to the cord with 3 decoy's on it and move it just a little. I never pull the cord when the birds are voer head. I have found that it will flare the birds more times than not.

Just started using a jerk string and it is still a learning process. I also use the jerk-a-spread and the first time i used it worked great. The second time i worked great until the wind picked up, then i the dekes bunched together and the birds flared. Usually pull the string when i first see birds and when the swing behind me and cannot see me.

It's not skybusting, if you make the shot.

I just use it to keep the water moving in the standing timber. Works great.

Also in the standing timber I have an old trolling motor suspended under 4 decoys that I have converted. I use a foot control trolling motor switch. Works well when water is deep enough.

Paint the bottom of a decoy white. Use a mushroom boat anchor below it. Mix it in with a few feeder butts. Make it tip up. This works as good as a mojo.

I run a 3' bunjee cord from an anchor point (stump, T-post, log, whatever) to a decoy, the decoy to another decoy via decoy line (use however many you want...I use 2-3) Then from the back decoy I run a long stretch of line to the blind. Out in front of the blind I have an anchor to hold the cord under water. I poured concrete into a coffee can and put an eyebot in the middle. I run the cord from the decoys through the eyebolt into the blind. I yank like hell when the birds are on the swing and let it sit still when they are watching.

go high tech and get the jerk machine. it sits out there all by itself and does the jerking for you every 8 seconds, and has a remote.

Filling a coffee can with concrete seems like a heavy solution, I like to pack light. That is why used brick that has wholes in it, like the one below.

I use only 1/3 of the brick by breaking it such that I have a piece of the brick with 1 hole in it. Even then, I chip away some excess brick to make it even lighter, but leave the bottom flat so it sits good. When I’m done, I can wrap the cord around the brick and it goes in my decoy back. Works good, it does not weigh much, the brick I used is small and thin too.

I like your solution though, I my try that, but just pour the concrete is a smaller container, real small.
