so now that its conservation season i was wondering if anyone has ever hunted a roost pond with decoys? because you can hunt 30 min after sunset and since im not going to be hunting the geese for the rest of the season do yall think it would be a good idea? or no?

when i say hunting the roost i dont mean shoot them when they're on the pond sleeping. i meant set up with some decoys in the evening and hunt them when they start to come in

I hunted the roost the last day of season. They started to come in around 4:30 pretty heavy.

You don't really need decoys. For one, its late in the the season and they have seen every decoy spread there is. Secondly, if its truely their roost, they will be there anyhow so the decoys won't do anything IMO.

And guess what, I have just as many birds at my place today as I did the day before I hunted the roost.

I think you have the right idea. But, after having it chicken fried, the last few days were about filling the freezer with as much as possible

Sky Carp need thinning out. They are tearing up their own habitat on the Artic Tundra. Kill as many as you can!

If they ever want to get serious about thinning them out they will legalize the use of rifles to kill them. There are places where you could shoot them with a 22 until they were all drt.

Why are we still being "sporting" if it's really that dire of a situation.

actually poisioning them on the nesting grounds has been discussed several times.... however, the hatch was only 20% this year and a few years like that they will solve their own problem...

current regulations and e-caller arent really doing much to thin out the population... I personally think that if we really want to thin the numbers we need to allow baiting...

with that said, All the nutjobs will never let it happen... the snow goose is a great example of what peta, and greenpeace and HSUS and all the other bozos are capabable of doing by upsetting the natural order of things.

I've seen boats level full of banded snows. Tell me there wasn't a spotting scope and a .22 mag involved in that smack down. Haha. The ol boys wouldn't admitt to anything tho.

I read an article a few weeks back about Canada exploring the possibility of flying overhead and dropping bombs on roosts...no joke.

He is not talking about ducks or Canada geese! You bust a roost of Snow geese and they will leave unless you have the only water around and they are forced to use it or they just leave the area for good. Since the only game in town right now is Snows and you got a roost full of them, go shoot them tonight and tell me how many come back tomorrow!!!!

Snow geese are probably the smartest form of waterfowl.

If you bust them in one spot, they won't come back for several days.

There are multiple thousands on the place I go in South Texas, as we speak. Next year, I'm gonna find some hardcore snow hunters and do a February smack down.

We need a thousand decoys and a few e-callers.
