I am not asking for anyone's secret honey hole, but I would like to be pointed in the right direction. I have a 1 yr old GSP that points like there is no tomorrow on anything that will hold (including house cats grin ) and a drive that doesn't stop. Basically, I need info on where to go so I can spend some field time with him. This weekend we might head to the Caddo grasslands now that deer season is over. Quail hunting reports don't look to great out there but it will be a start.
Any help would be appreciated.

Your best bet is at a hunt club. Send me PM if you're interested.

Yep, at this point in a generally poor season he is correct. You also might want to have him (or some other pro) go along on the initial shoot. Its a helluva lot easier to prevent bird dog problems than it is to fix them.

Yup, I should have mentioned that in my original post. I need training too. I probably know just about enough to create problems. If someone wants to show a greenhorn how it's done that would be great. To be honest I don't have a ton of money to put into this, but I am willing to work with my pup consistently to re enforce training.

For now shooting birds isn't the priority, going somewhere that has birds and training him is. Going with someone that knows what they're doing is icing on the cake!
Suggestions of who to talk to, clubs to look at, etc. are all welcome.

Thanks again.

Thanks Jon - where do I send the check. I gave him some suggestions "off line".

Need to be creative in training. I use pigeons and empty lots. Game warden made me leave one place the other day...said I needed written permission to be there - he wasn't very nice about it either. I've since talked to the owners and we're working out an agreement.

Clubs are a good resource too.

LMAO.. No check needed. Just being honest. Had the pleasure of hunting with you. I've seen how you handle first time hunters and seasoned. That speaks for its self.

You can buy you some pin raised birds to train him with.
