went skeet shooting today and on the way down every pond had ducks. one of them was a 1 and half acre sewage runoff pond for a parking lot and there was about 90 to a hundred redheads, canvasbacks, widgeon, and blackjacks. i pulled over off the highway to get a better look with my binoculars. Is anyone else grieving the end of the season?

Housework season has started. The worst ending to hunting season.

My grieving is over but had a similar experience today. Went down to the farm today to see how much it had rained down there. Had not been since the last day of the season when I got skunked that morning. Saw very few ducks the last weekend. Well this afternoon my duck hole was covered in Mallards. Oh well.

More like a period of depression, not grieving. It sucks.

My dog snores.

talked to some goose hunters today that told me about a milo field that flooded from the recent rains and was covered up with mallards and pintail, so I had to go check it out.

It was crazy, birds everywhere, and it is land that I have permission to hunt. frown

Me too, it was really bad this morning when I got up and things were slightly iced up around here. It seems to concentrate the birds a lot more and makes them easier to hunt. But! I'm about to take possesion of my first duck boat. It needs a ton of work but it was really cheap and lots of it. This thing should keep me occupied for most of the spring and summer getting it ready. I can't hardly wait until next season now because I can finally go to the ducks. I'll have pictures soon.

Field Trials are up next, with some fishing mixed in.

But in reality, I'm already working on next year. Draining the water off my place right now. Will disc in May/June & plant milo and brown-top millet, then jap millet in late July.

This weather definitely got me missing it some, a lot of warm windless hunts this year. Why is it every year there is a cold front right after season ends bang

We had to pick someone up at DFW so we stopped at Bass Pro Grapevine between 11:30 and 1:00. If you were there at the time, you may have heard some loud and mournful moaning coming from the parking lot near the restaurant entrance. That was my two yellar dawgs. If you heard that moaning get even louder, that's when I went back to the car and joined them in harmony.

Cappy ... At my side for thirteen years, in my heart forever.

right now is the hardest. theres still tons of ducks down and we cant shoot them. also work and preparation doesn't start for about 3 more months.Ive been continously checking different websites just looking at new decoys and calls. so we get to watch every hole we had been skunked on before be loaded up with ducks. I guess thats just hunting confused2

Definitely feeling it.
I've got a pen raised quail/pheasant hunt coming up but it's not the same. I am going to get my dog some work in.
I do a little bit of recreational fishing, but I will be eagerly awaiting opening day.

No bad days hunting

Too funny Cappy. I was at Garland, but I did hear some hollering like you described. I think your sympotms are happening all over the Texas. BASSHAWK
