I was hoping that someone had a good recipe for deer meat tamales. Or any tamales for that matter.

My wife makes em. Shes mad at me though because I used her tamale pot to boil a buck skull.

don't wirry kdub, my motherinlaw is mad at me for trashing one of her pots to do the same thing. Maybe she will get a storage building and get her stuff out of my house.

Do a Google for "Tex-Mex tamale recipes" There is a place out of San Antonio that has a recipe and everything else you might need.

I tried it one time.....its some thing thats way more about skill than having a recipe.
When i lived in Dallas I would simply ask the mexican guys I worked with if they had a wife/mother that made good tamales.
Id give them a whole deer and every time they made a batch they would bring me a few dozen....hassle free and kept me well stocked on tamales.
on average id bring them 1 doe and id get 12 dozen tamales over the course of a holiday season.....if you have ever made them then you know how good of a deal this is.

deewayne hit the nail on the head. Find a Mexican lady that makes tamales. Give her the meat, and hope to get maybe 30% in return. From the guys I know that have made tamales, it's WELL worth it.

Back when I taught Ag in Mansfield, I had a kid who used to bring me tamales all the time. Man they were good. I saw him a couple years after he graduated and asked him if he still made them. He said no, he quit raising dogs. I'm sure he was joking........ But either way, MAN!! Those were some good tamales.

My wife made tamales a few weeks ago. They tasted great (for tamales). They were not worth the hours of work she put into them. I'm pretty sure she downloaded a recipe from google.

Luna's Tortilla Factory on Harry Hines @ Regal Row makes the best tamales I have ever had. $12 per dozen and worth every penny Just don't eat all you can and then eat 2 more, you'll pay more than $12dz in the "end" trust me...

If you buy the dough already made it is not that hard to make em. Back in the day the dough had to made from scratch which was a pain. This year we mad so many for Christmas, I don't wanna see another till next Christmas. We made pork, chicken, and beans w/jalapeno and they were all great. We get the dough at HEB. I need to go and open a business in Irving, $12 a dozen! Thats double what they go for here.
