so i was wondering during the spring season do yall think it would be ok to try to hunt with about 70 snow goose decoys and an electric call? or should i get more? i mainly hunt for ducks and specks and the occasional snow goose but now that speck season is over im gonna try for snows. so you think it would work this late in the season or are the huge spreads of 1000 deeks the only way this late?

In the late season your prob better off with 70 fullbodies and/or shells than 300 rags. It wont hurt to try.

I hope you get em man. I recently had tough luck getting snows into a small spread. Those are some smart SOB's. I've been doing a little research on the subject and it seems that all the pros use hundreds if not thousands of decoys. During the conservation season, they use multiple e-callers, as well.

Smaller spreads of full bodies can work, however, you start to run into problems with hiding the hunters. If you can get everyone hidden well then you stand a much better chance.
Unfortunately, this year with the lack of young birds, hunting is going to be tough.

It can be done. My wife and I found a place last year where the geese were feeding on green wheat. We set up about 100 Higdon shells which are as close to full bodies as you can get. They are very detailed. We just got lucky though because where they were feeding was right next to a very small pond that had chinese tallow trees around it. We were able to get under the trees to hide.
Your problem is going to be hiding from the birds. With that few decoys I would spread them out by 6 steps each. The next most critical thing you are going to have to do is dig in. If you don't you aint going to kill them. Once your dug in you need a face mask and some sort of cover. That cover has to match exactly to the ground cover in the field your in. A good way to test that is if you can easily see it then they can see it better. You can forget a dog as well. They will pick him off as soon as they get on top of you.
There was less than an 8 percent hatch. Meaning less than 8 percent of the hatchlings survived. Those numbers are way too low to get birds into a spread with ease.
Your best bet if you don't have enough decoys is to make internet friends who do. There is a guy that goes by wal1809 on here that loved to shoot those white devils and he has a trailer load of snow goose decoys. If you have a lot of snows feeding in a field then PM wal1809 and bs with him, I am sure he won't mind.

ok thanks. ya we have 12 speck fullbodies, 18 snow full body, and 36 snow sillosocks.ive been on hunts with about 1000 sillosocks and e callers. i cant really afford to buy that many and since i mainly hunt with one other person that would be hard. we mainly just put them on the edge of our duck spreads and we ussually get a couple specks and canadas but usually no snows unless their young. but ya i have yet to see many young birds this year. Thanks for the replies! im gonna try to maybe get a couple more full bodies if i can.
