I am living in Huntsville and am dying becasue I have no lease. I am debating hunting the national forest. I have some friends that told me they could take me places that there would be noone. I am skeptical, but I might try. I know I need the public hunting licence, but what else??

I wouldn't know about that area, but I would take some time, since it's mid-season, just to look around a little; maybe get a feel of the area...just in case.

I have hunted the Sam Houston Nat'l Forest for 4 years with my dad and brothers. I have taken 3 bucks three years in a row, my dad and brothers have taken 3 bucks, 3 does, 3 hogs. We have been blessed with some great hunting the past three years, better than any lease we have been on. It has been well worth the $48. We have not seen any hunters since opening weekend. The opening weekend this year was the worst we have seen in four years. We had people walking all through our area. Give it a try. One piece advice, don't hunt off the farm to market roads (i.e. don't park on the shoulder of FM 1375 and hunt there because it is crowded and the most hunted because it is just easy for people to park and hunt from there. Go to the Nat'l Forest Roads on the maps that are off the main roads. You'll run into fewer people. I hope that made since.

I USE TO HUNT THERE AS WELL, BIG BUCKS ARE THERE BUT HARD TO FIND. I AM JUST WORRIED ABOUT SAFTEY IS WHY I NO LONGER GO THERE. PEOPLE WILL WALK RIGHT BY YOU AND YOU WILL ALSO CATCH PEOPLE IN YOUR STANDS HUNTING. I THAT IS ALL YOU HAVE THE SO BE IT BUT I WOULD GO ELSEWHERE. SINCE IT IS THE END OF THE SEASON I WOULD NOT RECOMEND YOU GOING OUT THERE AND LOOKING AROUND FOR YOU MIGHT DISRUPT ANOUTHER HUNTER. ALTHOUGH IF YOU GO OUT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK THERE ARE FEW PEOPLE OUT THERE.
