I just got the green NAVHDA training book and am thinking about using to train my GSP. Has anybody used this book to train your dog? Any advice or tips?

Yes I have with my first dog. I talked with one of the writers (Ed) and he said he regrets writing some of the FF portion. He says some people have taken the ear pinch too far and he gets letters about how to correct issues. There is no one cookie cutter program for all dogs and the green book can be used as a guide as it has some good tips but it should not be the only book you reference.

So should the ear pinch method NOT be used or just not taken too far?

Depends on the dog. If the dog is on the sensitive side, then no. If not, then it should be fine but if the dog will not open or yelp with the ear pinch just by using your fingers, do not progress to pilers, bottle openers, your teeth etc is what Ed meant

I see. I don't think I'll be biting my dogs ear anytime soon. LOL!

I used it along with about 20 other books. Use it and other books along with your brain. If you don't think something is right or working, don't do it.

a lot of people are now referring to Evan Grahams SmartFetch program as the latest holy grail of FF. There are a lot of trainers that base their program off the Green Book and they are producing Versatile Champions.
