Wrap it in bacon and seal it up with tin foil, put on the smoker for about two hours. When it's done throw away the squirrel and eat the tin foil. LOL I can't cook squirrel for chit!

Chicken fried, chicken fried, or chicken fried. Can't go wrong with any of the 3 methods.

Grandpa used to fry them when ever I brought some home. That isn't really a new idea though. He made some stew one time also.

Can I go ahead and ask the obvious: In a word full of large, delicious animals, that yield plenty of meat for a meal for 4...why the hell do ya'll eat squirrels, raccoon, and oppossum!?! Ya'll can't possibly tell me you woke up this morning and thought "damn I'd love to eat the heck outta some squirrel tonight"

Squirrel is good. Actually a game animal in some states with a season. Raccoon and Possum not so much.

My great grandmother always cooked it in a pressure cooker. Anyone remember those? She usually mixed it with dumplings, too. For her, squirrel was a necessity in order to feed her 8 kids and 2 grandkids she had to raise during the depression. She cooked it her whole life, and us kids ate it right along with her! I sure do miss her....

Actually I can too. My nephew in GA wanted me take him with his new .17HR hunting and then to cook him some last week while I was there. Fried, back in the gravy to get tender with biscuits.

My dad used to always bbq it when I would shoot one at the lease. Smoke it for a while and then wrap in foil with a little bbq sauce sop.
I thought about shooting one at the lease this past weekend but didn't. I was gonna cut up in pieces like a chicken, roll in seasoned flower and fry in a skillet. Then make some gravy in the skillet and put the squirrel back in and smother on low heat for a while.
I was also thinking about doing a squirel confit. just poach it in oil. I think it would keep it from drying out.

I keep threatening to kill a couple of the little critters, maybe a rabbit or so also, then make them into a gumbo with some smoked venison sausage. I'd serve it to a bunch of the family that won't eat game and tell them it's chicken & sausage gumbo.

Young ones are good for frying. Older ones your better off parboiling, then removing the meat from the bone and making stew.
Braising them in a skillet with onions, then serving over mashed potatoes kicks [censored] too.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.

Fried, back in the gravy to get tender with biscuits. Agreed. Chicken fried with gravy made out of the drippings. Goes great with potato soup!

Dutch oven or Crock Pot, quartered and browned in a skillet then crocked. I'm interested in this. we have an abundance of squirrel at the lease. What fluid do you use in the croc? Chicken broth, gravy, or soup?

last one got throwed in the crock pot to tenderize while I was sitting in the treestand waiting on a deer
I musta left it too long cuz it was fallin' off the bone. I fished it all out and stirred the meat in a ramen noodle cup.not too bad for a greasy tough rat. . . .
I've had squirrels and bunnies about every way there is to cook em. . . .
