Does anyone have a map of the areas this has gone thru?

I'm lookin' for a deer lease, but am like others and don't want to waste money on a lease w/o game. I have a 5yr old that will be 6 soon that was dying to have a chance at a deer. Our lease in east Texas turned out to be a scam. I know he was more disappointed than I was, but I can't make the same mistake twice. Reason for asking so many questions.

Thanks for the threads!! Good info.

Were there any outbreaks outside of the "triangle"? I read about Crockett County in Aug '09 was reported.

I'm not that familar w/ those counties can someone tell me the routes this "triangle" entails? I remember reading about west of Rocksprings and northwest of 90. Any more detailed info would be greatly appreciated.

Yes we had a break out last summer. We are on the northern southern part Crockett Northern Val Vedy. The ranch is off Ranch road 1973 south of I 10. We hunt the 30 K acre ranch of Bill Cole. We lost about 45% of our deer heard. The ranch lost several cattle and sheep.

I'm no expert, but on a larger scale , I am guessing that the drought probably took out more deer than anthrax did.

Exactly what I've been reading also. Don't want to get on a lease that have no deer.

I remember a 30K acre lease I hunted as a guest near Big Lake a few years back. It had a bunch of good deer on it. We saw a muledeer one summer that looked to be dead. My buddy walked up to it and it got onto its feet and ran off. It was skin and bones. Never seen a muledeer or whitetail in that poor of condition. We found a couple really big cows dead that summer and was never told why. That fall all or 90% of them disappeared. There were no muledeer to be found either. The turkey population dropped dramatically also. I'm not so sure that it was ever checked out for anthrax, but I'm willing to bet it was.

Are there alot of ranches that never report anthrax? Is legal not to?

it is illegal not to disclose if there have ever been an anthrax outbreak if the property is getting sold....kinda like an oak wilt addendum

So, the only way to know if there was anthrax in the area would be not seeing any deer or run across a burn area?

I guess new trail camera pic's could prove the game is there unless the date is wrong (if there is any). Sorry........just thinking out loud.

I believe that your supposed to report anthrax outbreaks to the state.

in a famous case, a man sold a ranch to a deer breeder who asked about anthrax, the man lied and told him there never had been anthrax in that area. a year goes by and anthrax comes thru and kills a hundred thousand dollers worth of deer.

man sues, judge rules in favor of the breeder, not only does man get the ranch, but judge orders the seller to refund the cost of the ranch.

not something that is taken lightly apparently
