I am looking for a gunsmith that can rechamber a tactical 223 into a 22-250 for me. Anyone know of someone they could recommend? Thanks

What kind of rifle? It might be better to get it rebarreled.

It's a rem 700 223 tactical. It has a 1/9 twist. It may be better to rebarrel it, but I want to keep the 20in matte bull barrel. That's why I need to talk to a good smith. Thanks guys

The bolt face will be different too, so it's more involved than just a simple rechamber. Lotsa guys are getting good speeds with .223AIs, which would be a much simpler job.

Thanks I might be taking out my arse on this one but I'm almost positive that I read about this on an AR forum and everyone (including some gunsmiths) opined that the AR receiver probably couldn't withstand the pressure of a 22-250.

IF it is even possible to do, my guess is that it would cost you out the arse to rechamber a 223 to 22-250. There's a whole lot more to it than just rechambering. I believe the rifle would also have to have a new magaazine, and bolt face for sure. And because of the difference in the case size (shoulder to neck), you're gonna need some barrel throat work too. By the time you get the bill, it would probably be cheaper to just buy you a nice 22-250. But if you're still wanting to do it, I would also recommend Doc's.

Where can I find a remington 22-250 1/9 twist in a 20in barrel. If thats possible I had rather buy one. I did talk to Docs yesterday and he said 125.00 to rechamber the gun. I did not ask about the bolt face. Thanks for all the info

I'm in bad need of a .223 bolt face action. If you're wanting to get rid of the .223 let me know and maybe we can work something out.
I really just need the action, so if you want to keep the barrel, rechamber it and screw it on a right sized action we could work that out too.

i think remington makes a varmint model with a 20 in barrel.
but for $125 rechamber the gun....keep in mind though that with a 20 in barrel all you'll have is a loud .223 in terms of performance
