what are the deer like there? How is the country?

Would it be a good place for a lease? How many acres would you want per hunter out there? Price per acre?

I am starting to look for a lease with some buddies and Mills County is one of the counties we are looking at.

I have hunted Mills and it is a good county. For a lease, it is always based on your property location and your neighbors as to how many deer you will see.

If you are going to do it, give it your best!

It probably depends on where in the county but at our place we see quite a few deer. This year it has been mostly bucks for some reason. We keep 2 camera's out year round and the best buck we've seen was a 10 point with a drop tine with a large spread. Other than that it's mostly 8-9 pts and less that are barely legal by the new restrictions. Hope this helps.

what about the Priddy area?

Goldthwaite?

I don't know, what is the best area in the county?

How is the county for dove? duck? turkey? bobcats? hogs?

third year to hunt in Mullin (8 miles west of Goldwaithe).
Great hunting.
Good size deer, with a good herds.
This year was strange. Didn't see as many deer as last year and the big bucks were nocturnal. Lots of night pictures of bucks but not near as many spotted during shoot light as the last two years.
Seemed to be the same all over this year.
Mills county is rolling hills, with live oak, and mesquite.

Good Luck And Keep a Tightline!

I've grown up hunting Goldthwaite and Star. Just shot two does off our place last weekend. I know when we go spotlighting for coons out of the pecan bottoms I've seen hundreds of deer in a single field. They are out there smile

As far as big deer, totally depends. There are many factors at play IMO.

Hi,

Deer hunting often has different seasons and restrictions from firearm hunting, and they differ significantly between countries, states, and provinces. Thus it's very important to consider all aspect before taking any step forward for hunting.

We have a ranch in Caradan(Mills Cty) There are a lot of deer.
The hunting was tough this year, very different than in the past. In my area a 140-150 would be a good deer. Found this
one on the ranch.

Mills is in the center of Brown, Comanche, Hamilton, Lampasas, and San Saba counties . All have an abundance of deer and some areas have lots of hogs. The western and southern half of Mills has more cover overall than some other areas but the deer population is more than adequate in all areas.

I hunt in the western part of the county--4 miles sw of Priddy. We have good numbers of deer and a good buck to doe ratio. We have an abundance of 8 pointers in our area and not a lot of spikes. No hogs at all --thank god.

I stand corrected Wyatt---you`re an oak.

Our lease is in comanche county as well (southern comanche --northern mills). I had never looked at a map for the counties I just thought it was in the western part.

I have hunted West Mills county for the last two years. Last year I took a nice nine point and a cull buck. This year, I took an 11 point and two does..........Just a point to know, if you don't already, Mills County does have the antler restriction now.

Here are a couple of pics from this year.

Will I lease in Mills County next year.........YUP....
