The trip that I look forward to every year. The groceries, 500+ acres of flooded simi beans: The landscape: Damn near impossible to kill! Decoy to 3 dozen decoys, yeah right! At least we got a few: Free range buck: Better picture of the total haul: I hope that we can get some of you guys down there next season.

Looks like it could be some good pass shooting for the geese The geese were our primary target, but they are just hard to kill man. The first day we set out all the decoys, called, etc. Shot one speck. The second day, I had a better plan. I put my layout under a tree where they were coming in. No decoys, no calling, just ambush position. Sure enough they landed about 300 yds. away and walked toward me from behind. I rolled over in the layout and watched them on my belly for a good thirty minutes as they fed toward me. Some filtered to the outside but the mass of well over 1,000 birds was coming right to me. Finally, the first ones were in range, 7-8 snows. I was waiting for the Ross and Specks to get closer then I was gonna skillet shot the whole damn flock. All I needed was 20 more seconds!!! The ones that had gone around had apparently come in front of me, but now I was looking out the back of the blind. They busted me, the whole flock took off, I shot three times and got nothing! It was seconds from a massacre. After that, I decided to hunt ducks and cranes.

Holy crap!!! What a day! That's something you dream of. That is just straight up amazing. Actually, the last picture with all the birds is from 4 days of hunting. We froze the birds b/c we hooked up with a taxidermist that is willing to trade free work for birds. I don't want anyone to think we went over our limit, it was just dad and I hunting. We wasted two days trying to decoy geese. In my opinion, if you don't have hundreds of decoys, you're wasting your time. Those bastards are way too smart. Thanks for all the compliments, it was a great trip.

Sweet. A hunt with the ole man is always fun either way. Thanks, I agree. We hunt and fish together all the time. He's a cool old SOB. Hell, his phone will ring and it's one of my buddies. Happens all the time.

Nice Moose! Thats awesome. You got any plans for the black duck or any of the blue wing teal. I might have to get one of those mounted.

Nice Moose! Thats awesome. You got any plans for the black duck or any of the blue wing teal. I might have to get one of those mounted. One of the specks is a real bull, lots of bars. The speck, mottled, and two of the teal are headed for taxi. I'm gonna do a Euro mount on the buck. If anyone wants one of the teal, I'll trade one for a good canvasback.

Congrats on the birds, cranes and buck. Looks like you all had a hell of a time even though the geese didn't cooperate. I bet you won't ever forget all those geese around you
I did the same thing this afternoon. Layed in a wheat field for an hour after belly crawling for 2 hundred yards. Damn calves came to investigate what we were and spooked the 3000+ Honkers, snow and specs that were just 60 yards from us. It was awesome having flock after flock land just out of range and see the birds work.
