I got an email from a NSTRA friend who guides on the Pitchfork ranch. He's pointing 12 to 14 coveys a day. He said that he found 11 Monday morning. He runs dogs from his Mule, and has really great dogs. He lives up west of Denton. I'd let him take this one if I lived up there. I think she could go three hours in front of a Mule. He's a great trainer.

Friends who have leases are not shooting birds. I wonder if they'll ever come back? _________________________ Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill Easy to explain! My first report was a secondhand report. It came from another forum. Today's report was a first hand report. It came from Larry Hill. I only report what I read. This is a slow forum, and I'm new on here. I like to help to keep it moving. Here's another one from the bobwhite quail reports on PDJ forum. Aggie007 Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Katy, TX Posts: 33 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- King ranch, Kennedy Ranch and the ranch we lease have all decided to halt quail hunting for the rest of the season. My dad and I have been pushing quail management for a while now without success, but finally they want to do something about it. Its good because we have say in how things are done, just hope it is not too late to help bring back the bird population.

The guy that runs the hunting at the pitchfork is a friend but I had been unable to reach him. They sure need a decent year because they had had 2 shutouts thrown at them.

Larry Hill= great guy. He took the time when I was first starting to bird hunt and spent an afternoon with me and my 1st. dog. After only a couple of hours I learned a lot as well as my dog. Very very neat guy, need to call him up and go visit him.

One of the guys in our group hunted our after deer season pasture just outside of Throckmorton for a half day and only pushed one covey. Its feeling like to me that the huntable bird crop is north of a Spur/Seymour line going up to Canadian area this year, and it seems like its a pretty hard line as the dozen or so reports I have gotten from different guys on different leases south of that line are not good at this point.
