This is a great rifle. It has been voted the best woodsmans rifle of all time in 7mm08! I had one that got stolen, and it was by far the best rifle I have ever owned, great balance, feel, looks, just a great rifle!

I bought one years ago while I was still working in .223. Ammo was issued to us and that helped determin choice of caliber plus I was in an area where I could call coyotes at the time.
Great little rifle. Easy to carry, slung or not, rides well in a vehicle and is easy to handle inside a vehicle and get poked out the window in a hurry, if something that needs killin is out there.
My stock has some scars on it, but the rifle shoots very well. Probably my "most carried" rifle after the .357 Rossi lever action rifle.

It is basically the 700 action. They only produce the rifle in the short action calibers. I think the first ones were chambered in 7-08 the 25th anniversary gun a couple of years ago was in 7-08. They are great rifles. Excellent for children and women but make a nice handling and shooting rifle for guys. Mine is in .223 with a Leupold 2x7. I will have other calibers before long.

I still have a Model 7 in 7-08 and its a great little gun and very accurate! Mine is one of the original walnut stock versions with the pencil thin 18.5" barrel that they discontinued a few years back!

Whats the diffrence in the action? Looks like a regular 700 action to me. I will have to pull mine out and see, but I am pretty sure the Model 7 action is a lighter version of the 700 short action! I think the Model 7 has only one rear base mount hole and the 700 has two!

That is sweet. I also like the ones they made for awhile with the textured looking syntheitc stock and stainless barrel.

Really nice rifle! I have a stainless w/ an AI wooden stock: As purchased this rifle came w/ the black synthetic stock - I'm a wood guy so the synthetic stock had to go, but nothing wrong w/ it. Mine is a 7mm-08 w/ a 20" barrel and clocks about 2650 w/ Federal 140 grn accubonds. It shoots the accubonds and Hornady SST's equally well (to almost the exact same POI!), consistently about 1", 3-shot groups at 100 yards. It does not like Hornady light mags or Remington Core-locts, haven't tried any other ammo. This rifle will get it done for any game in Texas (and then some) and has proven highly effective for me. It is a joy to carry and a joy to manuever in a tight stand. Moderate recoil that even my 5'2" wife can tolerate. I've taken more game w/ this rifle than any other I own. The wife is none to happy in that pic! She had never shot a deer before, this weekend (last year) was her 1st hunt. After my assurances that "it never really gets cold at the lease, besides we have box stands...", we hunted the coldest weekend of last years rifle season. Daytime highs were about 35degrees, wind was howling - propane heater pointed at her in the box blind while she wore 1 pair long underwear, 2 pairs pants, 3 shirts, 3 coats all topped w/ a pair of insulated coveralls - and shivered! Regardless, it's a 1st rate little rifle. The model 7 action is 1/2" shorter than a regular Rem 700 short action, though I don't know how or why. I've got a Bushnell 3200 5-15 w/ a firefly reticle on mine w/ Leupold bases and rings. Excellent combination. David

Canazes that gun is awesome!
Thought I'd add that I met a guy once that use to do do it yourself elk hunts and all he carried in the mountains was a model 7 due to its small size.

They are great rifles. I have one that started with the 18.5" barrel in 243. Now it has a 22" barrel and is chambered for 358 Winchester. One of my favorite deer-thumpers.

I have one of the very early M-7s in 7mm-08 too. It has an 18.5" barrel and steel bottom metal and came out of the Remington custom shop with their Kevlar stock in a gray camo pattern.
I mounted a Leupold VXIII 2.5x8 scope on it. With a sling and a magazine full of ammo, it weighs 6 lbs. It shoots 130 Speer BTs behind R-15 powder just under 3000 fps and <1MOA. The short little rifle is handy in my pickup, UTV, and box blind. And it is a deer and hog killer without equal.

I had thought about having a 358 Win conversion done on a model 7, but the initial checking I did indicated that I may have a problem w/ COAL in the heavier bullet weights due to the model 7's short mag box. I would love to hear more about your model 7 in 358, and which loads work best in your rifle, etc. Thanks, David

i love mine, got it off the forum here. SS model in 260. That caliber has got to be the best round going. Tween it and the 7-08, you cant go wrong.

I would love to hear more about your model 7 in 358, and which loads work best in your rifle, etc. Thanks, David I had the original conversion done by a now-defunct gunshop in Plano- he owed me some money. When I first got it back, it wouldn't shoot worth a hoot. I took it to a gunsmith I know in Alabama and he fixed it. Said the chamber was buggered up, threads cross-threaded, and the recoil lug had been welded on backwards. He fixed all the problems and smoothed the matte finish and re-blued the barrel. The only load I have shot in the gun is the factory WW 200 grain Silvertips. There is usually a limited, "seasonal" run every year. It shoots so well with the Silvertips I haven't even tried to improve on it. I had intended to have the front of the forearm smoothed out- removing the ridges but my stock guy said it would get into the checkering so I left it alone. No problems with loading, cycling or anything.

I've been considering a 7mm 08. everthing that I have read on them is good. Its supposed to be the best of the 243 and 308 rolled into one. The model 7 looks pretty good, I'm a big 700 fan.
