I'm new to the forum and I just got a .30-06 for my birthday and I've been doing some research online to find the best ammo...problem is they all claim to be the best lol. I've narrowed it down to 3: Remington Core-Lokt, Winchester Super X, or Hornady InterBond. I'll be shooting 165 gr and the price of a box really isnt an issue. What would you guys suggest I buy and hunt with?

I like Hornady and Federal Premium, but different ammo will work better for certain guns than others. If you can, get a few different brands and try each one to see if one brand groups better than the rest.

If you're only hunting deer, any round will work. For elk or other big game, you might think about some of the ballistic-tip premiums.

From the 3 choices given, hornady. I use fusion and have had great results.

Which ever one shoots the most accurately from your rifle is what I'd recommend. All will kill deer and hogs with monotonous regularity.

Hornady and Remington work great in mine, just try a few different types.

I shoot the remington out of my 06 and it pretty much drops the animal in its tracks

Got a Remmy 7400 in 270 that shoots core-loks perfect, but doesn't like the higher dollar alternatives out there.

Thanks guys for the suggestions!!! I think I might start with the cheapest ones and work my way up depending on how my gun shoots it.

I would have to agree.

I'll second this motion....

Whatever shoots the best out of your gun.....

It's not how big a bullet, it's where the bullet hits... rifle

Slip it in the right spot..

Corelokts, 150 and 180, Fed. Powershok, 150 and 180, and Fusion 165 all shoot plenty good for me out of my Stevens .308

I'll echo that just about anything will drop a deer if you put it in the right place...and that place is a pretty large area.

Each gun will respond differently to different ammo, but I am a big believer in that Hornady SST.

My 30.06 loves shooting Hornady, and with the groups I get I do to.

Welcome to the forum! Core-Lokts have been killing deer for many years, as have other factory standards. If extreme accuracy is your goal, try out a few to find out what your rifle punches paper the best with. If strictly a hunting gun, pretty much any factory ammo will provide sufficient accuracy and performance. I picked up a box of off-brand .30-06 ammo a few years ago because I was in a pinch. The deer didn't know I'd paid less than $8.00 for it, neither did the rifle.
