CHC,

You know, for a guy that doesn't take things personally, you sure get riled up. Like Ron said, we won't ever agree on this. It doesn't make you, Ron, me or anyone else a bad guy.

It just means we disagree on this particular point. From what I've read, I know we agree on many others.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Answer one thing for me, what makes you think I am riled up?

Me, you, and Ron have simply restated our opinions on this subject about 4 times each, and it is just time to move on, on this subject.

Actually I have had a good time trading jabs with you and Ron, simply because none of us resorted to name calling, and stuck with the fact that we were each entitled to our opinions, even though that opinion wasn't agreed with by everyone concerned.

Your last two posts had me a little concerned. Sorry I misinterpreted. I agree, it's time to let this one die.

Let's get on to something less controversial - RELIGION OR POLITICS?

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Not to steal the thread, but maybe this adds to the content. What about a Saiga-.308? It's a sporter AK chambered in .308. I hear you can get a good 1-2 MOA out of it NIB since it's better made and the marketed as a commercial hunting rifle. Everytime I see someone hunting it's always with a bolt gun. Is there a reason if everyone says most shots are under 200 yards?

Goody, I love stolen threads.

The reason more bolt actions are used, especially in this part of the country and on thru the rest of the western U.S., is because it is what most of us grew up around after WWII.

Before then it was lever actions.

Up in the North East and Upper Mid West those folks used more semi-autos, pumps, and lever actions than the bolt actions.

With modern centerfire rifles and scopes, and the fact that most game is shot at ranges of 200 yards or less a person can use what ever type action strikes their fantasy.

Bolt actions, also tend to be more accurate overall, have fewer parts that can be affected by cold or dirt, and for lots of folks are the classic hunting rifle design. JMO.

I have a Saiga .223 that I use with 5.56 Lake City FMJ 55 grain ammo, the muzzle velocity on it is somewhere close to 3200fps, it will kill anything big enough to die if the shot is placed in the right spot. If a hunter cannot place a clean kill shot, then don't squeeze the trigger! I like the Saiga, it is built in Russia in an old AK 47 factory, it has a lot of AK parts, I was told that as a military gun, it was an AK 74.?? It is a flat shooting, fast round & is accurate enough at 100-175 yards! I can shoot a gnat off a flie's arse with it! LOL! It has the side rail to mount a scope, I wish I had a good scope for it, after the 1st, I hope to get caught up to where I can get one.
