Ive heard of using raw eggs in the shell to train pups.
Get them to fetch them, and bring them back to you and release them with out breaking. This aids in helping teach the dog to not tear up your birds. Any one use this approach?

i would be afraid of them breaking one and then wanting to eat them every other time we trained. but it would be great for their coat.

Dogs will eat/chew on ducks if allowed to. But I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes a problem. It all usually gets taken care of with conditioning. Play with birds with the pup, doing short fun retrieves like you do with say a tennis ball. Positive praise and encouragment to bring you the duck. If, when the dog decides to start tearing the duck up or trying to eat it, you take the bird away and stop. Training/fun time is over and put the dog up till you want to train or play later. It's a tough situation though, I have let dogs tear up ducks just to get them to develope the drive/interest in the bird. Even still, here and theere, even the most trained dogs will gulp up a duck. I have seen Master dogs do it before at a test.
Typically it is not an issue though, best thing to do if you see it, is take the duck away and stop doing what you are doing.

I also discourage any type of "tug of war" with any dog used for hunting. I know people who get away with it, but you are encouraging a behavior that can carry over to the ducks. I have seen it. The dog is excited and decides to play, so then decides it's time to play tug of war with the duck.

heard of somthing similar. Use of food. Say like a big milk bone. get the dog on the table and work with that so that the dog does not chomp. then move on to more tasty food like a steak. If you can get the dog not to chomp/eat that, then bird will be no problem
I'll take a Black Female every time.

E second that! I never once played tug of war with my pup. The only tug of war time he gets is when he plays it with our sheltie. He has never once tried to avoid bringing me something, even brings a tennis ball right back to my hand, and has an extremely gently bite. I never did force fetching because it never caused a problem and I didnt feel I had to, it was just kinda natural to him. I guess I got lucky.

I feed my dog raw eggs a couple times a month without any problems. I crack the egg and throw the whole thing in her bowl, shell and all.

We have free ranging poultry of various sorts... no doubt the dogs find eggs pretty often and eat them raw - yes, shell & all. Never had any problems as a result of it. I really, really doubt we'd have much success expecting them to fetch & bring them back to us intact!
