I still use an old Browning Bow, but I am thinking about getting something new. I haven't hunted in a while so I am a little out of the loop on what's out there. I was wanting to just get some opinions on what to buy and why. Thanks.

BowTech Destroyer. A lot smoother and more forgiving to shoot than most other dual cam bows. I got one on order. Got everything for it, now just sitting around waiting on the bow to get in.

My BIL just got a new DXT and loves it. I heard that the Monster had some problems, something about their cam grooves not being deep enough.

Depends on how much you want to spend! Also, do you want to go to a Pro Shop to get it, or do you want to go to Cabelas/Bass Pro?

I'm a Mathews guy myself, all I've owned since they first came out. There are several good ones on the market these days. My advice, go out and shoot a couple of them before you drop the hammer. I've been shooting a DXT for the past couple of years, bought a Monster a couple of months ago and sold it within the first week because I didn't like the way it drew, and it was kind of heavy. I just bought a Z7 on the 23rd, and getting it ready for the late season spike/doe season.

Look at the following:

1. Mathews
2. Mission Archery
3. Hoyt
4. PSE
5. Martin

There are others, just can't think right now....

Good Luck...

Hoyt AM 32 or Maxxis 31. Not bashing, but they honestly make the strongest risers and limbs.

Thanks for all the help. I plan on shooting several before buying, I just want to try and narrow the search a little if I can. I will always shoot the old Browning I love that bow, and its been very good to me, I just want something a lot shorter than it. I've had friends who shoot Mathews and I've always liked them so that is where I was going to start. But like I said there are so many more options now then what there used to be! While I'm asking what are opinions on Broadheads?

Take a look at an Elite z28. You'll be amazed how smooth shooting and quiet that bow is. Don't be all caught up in the latest models, you can generally get last year's bow at a steep discount, esp this time of year as shops are unloading for next year's line and there are several good models from last year - Admiral (bowtech), Iceman (bowtech/diamond), Hoyt Alphamax, Elite z28, and a couple Matthews. Shoot them and see what you want. Seems like every year there are small incremental improvements in bow tech, but it takes about 5 years to make a big difference, so you're not loosing much looking at last year's bows.

I'm gonna be in San Angelo this coming weekend, does anyone know of where to look there. I think the name of the place I used to go was the outdoorsman? I've been doing some research, really want to look at the fall away rest, those are pretty impressive. May put one on the old bow, while I get back into shooting. Anyone hunt in that area, I used to hunt the state land when I lived there, curious if anyone knew anything about it?

i have recently talked to a PSE enginere and he had told me about a machine that PSE made to test there bows. the machince shot 1000 shots a hour. they shoot every bow that they make 10000 times and dont put it on the market enless the bow makes it thru the test. i asked him what other bow companies had made it threw the test and the only 2 bow companies that make it threw the test are PSE and Hoyt. Mathews will make about 5000 shots and Bowtec he said they cant even get a real number on. they didnt have a bow that would make it past 1500 shots. the bows that were put on the were set on 75 pounds and 30'' draw. so if that helps or would like any other questions go for it

Funny you mention that. There is a guy on the TBH asking what people think about Bear bows, he doesn't seem to know much about them confused2 Has your same nic and dated on 12-30-09. For someone that likes a Bear Bow, you sure don't seem to know much about, when your asking about them to a number of bowhunters on another forum. Anyone that needs the thread, PM me. I am sure it isn't you thought, correct???

I have an old Bear and havent been a bigbow hunter until recently and bow change and have improvements every few years. I have been looking around and talking with a few guys about some they are selling but went and bought a new one tonight after alot of the feedback that I have received from the new model Bears. My older one isnt as quiet as I would like. Hey 7mag I appreciate your concern. dont you have a game warden to call?
