It was obviously a joke, B-switalski.

Anyway, whether East Texas is hard hunting are not depends on whether you are hunting in the forest, or not. People think all of East Texas is forest, but obviously a lot of it is cleared land, and that's no harder to hunt than anywhere else.

We have seen some very nice bucks at our place on the sulphur river bottoms between mt pleasant and De Kalb. We have several resident bucks that I wouldnt mind putting on the wall. Tons of 8 point ranging from 1.5 yo up to some really nice ones. We have had very nice 10 point and there is a MONSTER 6 point on our place as well. Both my dad and my pastor have passed it up because I was after him. Havent had a shot at it though.

Its not like south texas, but there are plenty of very nice deer.

I've hunted deer in the hill country, south TX around Carrizo Springs and now I hunt in Walker County. Its tough but I'd take our $900 lease fee and 140-class deer any day over a $2,500 spot anywhere else.

Some of these folks seem a bit sensitive. Theres some good hunting in east texas. There is also some of the worst hunting I've ever experienced. Any particular location can be either and look basically the same. I've found in East Texas if the lease or hunting club spot is available you probably don't want it.

To each his own..I hunt east and north Texas and have killed some nice deer. It is certainly harder hunting, but it's still hunting. Shouldn't TEXANS support one another? Those of you who are being hateful should either consider keeping your mouth shut or moving out of Texas. We are considered the freindly state, or used to be at least. Remember, a day in the woods is always better than a day at work!

I believe that's true just about anywhere you go. IMO, you'll only find an opening in the best leases after someone dies or moves away.

Still, with poor hunting ethics and the "I only care about me" attitude being more common today, you may find an occassional opening in a good lease when a new member doesn't work out.

I m sure we are all aware that it was obviously a joke. But some of us east texas boys have put alot of hard work and patience managing our woods and are a little tired of being the red headed step child of texas hunting. Its all in fun i dont think anybody really takes it too seriously.

All kidding aside, it really is remarkable what a concerted effort can do for a deer herd in East Texas. I just recommitted for 2010 in Trinity County. This particular ranch is not a stepchild, but it took 15 years to get it there.

You have to take what you have and make the most of it, where ever it may be.

My first year hunting East Texas mostly because I won't fork over $1500-$2000 to deer hunt. While the numbers of deer are lower then I expected I still saw plenty of deer to keep it interesting. It has been a great season even if I didn't get a 140 to hang on the wall. I have no doubt they are out there however.

You need to call it...I can't call it for you.

We hunted the Hill Country for several years and loved it. Lost that place and got a place in East Texas a couple years back, My wife got her biggest buck ever this year at our East Texas lease.
8 points with 15.3" inside!

I love hunting East Texas!

I have hunted several states and alot of TX. Coming back and hunting here in East TX is always alot of fun. All that I learned was right here. I love sitting in the climber and watching these deer. I have killed some very nice deer here. I have heard lots of people down NE TX and I guess they have reason. I for one will never not hunt the piney woods.

East Texas is a great place to hunt. I have a 3,000+ acre lease in Sterling County, but I live in Longview. I hunt on my land north of Longview (Gregg County) every chance I get.

My boys and I are pretty particular about what we will shoot, but below are pictures of two bucks we harvested this season (my eleven year old got his just this past Friday afternoon).

Compared to Sterling County, the hunting in East Texas is a little "harder" - you don't see huge bucks on every visit to the woods, but they are out there.

I do recommend planting food plots - I have found that feeders don't do much in East Texas because of all the bountiful food the deer have to feed on in the woods (acorns).

Have a good time hunting whereever you go. It really doesn't matter.

Born, raised, and hunted east tx all my life, but by mid December, I dont mind the annual trip to south tx...kind of a nice reward for all the hard work...I did shoot a 135 class 10 in east tx this year..not complaining, just enjoy the change in scenery..

East Texas has the most deer as far as population and I have enjoyed hunting here and living here for the past 10 years. I am lucky to have the lease I do and I agree with millerliteliker when he said to plant food plots cuz the deer here in East Texas are pickyu and tough to lure out of the woods when the acorns are plentiful.

Problem with East Texas is it's hunted 24/7. Nice deer though. Some are probably killed during the day even.

haha Ford..cant say i disagree. ive hunted east texas for the past 10 years and like it was said before plenty of deer, hard to get in the open. STILL HUNTING is the answer for me, if you cant get them to corn then spend all day walking. still hunting is the best way to deer hunt and most enjoyable, just cant make myself sit in a box for hours and hours...
