Yep - been there done that. My family leased the same property for 15 years. Pretty much developed it from nothing. Added vegetation, deer stands, etc... collectively over 15 years. Then out of the blue...POOF - sold it.

Can't blame the land owners though. They are getting a VERY nice price (usually) for these properties.

I've been without a lease for about 4 years now. I can say its gotten so expensive that I'd rather go with a friend once or twice per year than deal with it all myself anymore.

Good luck in your search!

I agree, it's cheaper for me to buy a $100 out of state tag, than to pay lease dues, corn, upkeep, and time. I get as many deer as I want, and no headache. I would like to have a little spot that I could hunt locally, but like you said KSims, it's so dadgum expensive.

Well, what I mean by that, sir, is... if you was to put me and this here sniper rifle anywhere up to and including one mile of Adolf Hitler with a clear line of sight, sir... pack your bags, fellas, war's over. Amen.--SPR[image]

My suggestion is to buy your own piece of ground and you will never have that issue ever again. Get the right property and you can have a ton of fun. I did and I'm having a ball!

Used to hunt about 12 miles north of Loma Alto and loved it. Try looking up W.L. Whitehead from the Chamber of Commerce site.

Very good people with alot of land around there. Bud Whitehead is the guy's name that owns the ranches. Never seen as many deer in my life as I saw when I hunted that ranch.

Last year I found myself in what I thought at the time was a very bad situation. The ranch I hunt in West Texas was scheduled to get 27 of those big wind turbines installed. I figured it would ruin that year's hunting for sure, and might possibly run all of the deer out for good. Fortunately, I was totally wrong. Last season, even with all of the heavy construction going on, was still about average. And this year it seems like the deer have adjusted well and don't seem to pay much attention to the towers. But the best benefit I see is that with all of the wind generation money flowing in, this ranch will never sell. As long as everyone stays on good terms with each other, this lease should last for many, many years to come.

Good luck on finding a new place. And if that place happens to have turbines on it or in it's future, don't worry too much about the impact on the deer.
