I hunt in Edwards county where there is a good number of axis, but it seems they are very smart. I know that they are grazers and dont expect them to come to deer feeders, but i have heard that some people buy bales of alfalfa and put them in their feeders to bring them in. What other tactics do you guys use?

Search, this has been talked about several diff times. Axis have a sweet tooth and a good sense of smell. They eat foliage like peas, forbes, soft greens so alfalfa works because it smells sweet and is green. They like our apple scented corn but don't pattern like whitetail so they don't hit the feeder everyday but at least 3 or 4 times a week.

been wondering the same thing. have tried many things with no regular luck.
got lucky and had a doe come to the feeder yesterday, so meat in freezer.
but still want a buck sometime in the near future.
Stuff my dad said in the deer blind
"I can dive deeper and come up drier" "did you do that?"

Good green alfalfa and the sweet deer blocks (apple & molasses) seem to bring them in pretty well as well as Chaufe hay (sp). If you're bowhunting, setup on the trails downwind of the feed, and don't necessarily expect to get them on the feed itself, but on the way to it. They have a strong tendancy to circle downwind of any placed feed, and will bust you pretty regularly if you setup straight downwind. The other option is to set up where they have little chance of circling downwind (i.e. in the cover at the edge of a field where they'd have to be in the wide open to wind you)
