I'm a trapper and looking for a market or some people who would like to buy raccoons for the MEAT ONLY. I will sell them for $8 per raccoon. As most fur trappers know the fur market has took a big drop. I keep the fur, you get the meat for $8. If intrested PM me. Looking for buyers in Ellis and Navarro and surrounding counties. Thanks

I know back home, people I know that eats them would complain about how strong the meat could be from eating crawfish and fish.
Here...Corn Fed...They probably taste like chicken.

When I was under age I would trade raccoons , bullfrogs and fish for beer at the beer joint across the tracks.

*** I use to do the same thing with rats, but the fur market was never any good. Hot & Spicy Rat is excellent!

I wish you were closer. I would love to have some racoon. I use ti have a friend that was a coon hunter and he kept me supplied for a while but he moved. I like it on the pit.

Wow its been awhile. I trapped a lot of coons in the late 70s early 80s when the market was high $55.00 average for coons 100.00 for fox. Rats 3.50 upto 5.50 up here in wi. Sold the coon meat also. But never ate it. I have been told if cooked right it's not bad. It is a very dark red meat. Clean you should buy one and try it. Then tell us how it tastes.<><

"across the tracks" is where we used to pay the old man outside the beer store to go in and buy us beer
Dang, we should have been using critters instead of cash!

Put the coon in a pan with lots of peppers and onions and the meat is real good. we take the coons and cook them on a pit for about 12 hrs at 250 degrees.

got some friends that would put a coon in an underground pit overnight with some spices. Come out good in the morning.

Armadillo meat will surprise folks who haven't tried it. Once you cut away the layer of fat between the carcass & the shell, the meat's pretty darn lean. Soak it overnight in buttermilk, then barbecue it. Pretty darn tasty. Just try not to think of how the underside smelled while you were skinning it!
