i have a wildgame 2.0mp game camera. the original setup on the camera was for it to run off of 6 c-batteries. I modified the camera so that it would run of a 6-volt rechargable battery connected to a solar panel. The camera only takes pics for about 2weeks before it runs the battery dead. the battery and solar panel both are good. If there are any suggestions on why it drains my battery or other setups that i could try that will keep my camera running longer would be greatly appreciated. also if i went to a 12-volt would that make a difference. i live about 7hrs away from my lease so its hard to run up there every couple of weeks to change batteries out.

hmm, welcome to the THF. I have the same cam, and the c cells last several weeks., so I have not tried to install a solar setup.

Do you have it set on a photo every 1 min or every 5 min? I find that the 5 min setting will get you photos of the animals that are coming by the camera just as well as the 1 min settings and with the 1 min settings you are getting the same photos over and over, therefore longer battery life.

how many pictures are you getting in those 2 weeks

i have the 4.0 and i think it pretty much sucks, set it on the feeder for 2 weeks no pics a week in batteries dead. next week batt dead and no pics bring home sit on kitchen counter 55 pics

I have 3 Wildview 4.0 infrared camers on solar chargers and 6 volt batteries. The 6 c cell setup only lasted about 2 weeks with about 300-400 pics. Once I changed over to the 6 volt and solar chargers I have had no problems. Batteries stay charged. make sure when you put a battery on it for the first time charge it. Sometimes new batteries are not fully charged. Camera set on stills, 24 hour, 2 minute delay using 2 meg card. Like I stated above, I had a problem at first when I put on a new battery that was not fully charged but no problems now. Also check how you have the solar panel positioned. I had a problem there too because I had it by a tree where it did not get enough sunlight on the panel throught the day. Last thing, disconnect the solar charger from the battery and make sure the panel is working.

I'm only getting about 15-20 pic on the camra before it goes dead. and i have tried it on all 3 settings 30sec, 1min, 5min and it takes around the same number of pics just last a little longer.

my camera is set up on a trail so it isn't usually taking a pic of the same animal several times just catching them as they come by. I have a feeling that it isn't the time frame that drains the battery but the number of pics it takes. My brother has the same camera and his wasn't storing pics (to big of an sd card) and it lasted the entire off season. but as soon as we solved that prblem it took around 20 pics and was dead.

Thanks treebass. yeah i ran it at my house with the c-cell set up and it did the same lasting several weeks. but at the lease i'm on i get to make a trip about once a month and was looking for a way to keep the camera ruuning all year long without it going dead. and well obviously that hasn't happened yet becasue now i'm replacing 6-volt battries instead. Lol

I would say that there is something wrong with the camera if it kills the battery with 15-20 pics. Even with the c-cells that I used at first, they lasted 2 weeks with at least 300-400 pics taken.

I have the same camera. seems to work pretty well. have had it up two months now and it takes 500+ pics every two weeks. of course it eats the batteries, so I just change them out every two weeks. I'm pretty satisfied with the sub $100 camera.

Yeah i have considered the camera being bad. I'm headed back up to the lease next weekend which means its been in the woods for about 4 weeks all on its own. If its dead it might be time to buy a new one and chunk this one down the side of a canyon!

hey guys can one of yall tell me exactly how to hook up 6volt and solar panel to my wildgame camera. i have been trying with no luck.

shooteristone, here are some reccomendations I found on the net...

I took a little time and figured out how to do an external battery on these cameras. The hook up was simple but I cannot tell you to go ahead and open up your camera and perform this modification because it would probably void the warranty. I have a fairly simple method of doing this but I believe that should be up to the person who wishes to modify his/her own camera. What I will tell you is that with the cam open and you are looking at the front of the camera. The positive terminal is the bottom left plate inside the left hand side battery hole and the negative terminal is the top right spring inside the right hand battery hole. How you choose to hook to these is up to you. The operating voltage is (6) six volts and be sure to observe proper polarity when hooking up. My battery of choice was a 14 amp hour SLA battery. We have it hooked up and operating just fine. I just ran the wires out the door. For those who are talented, a barrel plug jack mounted through the bottom of the case would be much better. Those parts are available at Radio Shack, but drilling through the case to mount it would definitely void any possibility of return
