I bought two large peanut butter containers and screwed the lids to a tree and then cut off the bottom so the deer could lick them. The deer did not pay them the least bit of attention. Have any of you guys ever had success with peanut butter?

true story
a few years ago we tried a peanut butter trick
overlooking a field, put out a blob of peanut butter, like a tablespoon...

light breeze moving the scent to our left
deer come every evening out of the trees, and through this field headed to a winter wheat field

like clockwork, out came some does, about 1/2 way across the field they made a HARD turn and started sniffing and walking directly towards the peanut butter... my 11 year old son could hardly contain himself!

meanwhile I am focused on a buck off to our right and drop him, he's way out there and not part of this group

I turn back and the does had scattered a bit but came right back the PB area... about 15 of them

whack, my son drops one

fast forward to the next year
same place, same light wind, same deer movement
peanut butter in place
ZERO response

quite puzzled.. oh well

6 months later we were joking about it and he says "dad, the first time it was with that organic peanut butter that you have to mix up the oil and the "butter", the 2nd time was with Jiff or whatever...

fluke?
who knows..
but next time I try it it will be with organic PB!

yea i tried it last week, but i forgot the hammer and nails to hang it with,so i took the lid off and turned it upside down on a small tree that i broke the top out of,about 3ft. off the ground, this mourning 12/12 i got in the stand and it was gone,i thought has somebody been here, before i left i went to my camera to change the the card to see if i had somebody, and yep i did,i had a 6 point and a 9 point working on it and several small bucks and does, then i found the jar about 45yds away, absolutly clean,so yea i would say it work's.the next time i will use a 10 to 15ft.line to keep it in view of my camera.

I tried peanut butter for the first time this year. Screwed the lids to trees and mounted the jars with bottoms cut out. I set up three jars with cameras on three separate weekends to see what was going to happen. What I got pictures of were lots of very happy squirrels and racoons.... I don't think the peanut butter ever lasted long enough for a deer to find it.

Used some last month. It was gone over night. The next morning, the does were coming to the tree and looking for more.

Interesting stuff. Try putting Ground up Soy Beans in your corn feeders. Works like a magnet. I have bought the Peanut Butter for feeders also. Some results.

Sweetened peanut butter that we eat doesn't seem to work.
Unsweetened peanut butter, or peanut paste, works great.
I don't use it myself, but my cousin does. He has a source for unsweetened peanut paste. His game camera shows incredible results.

A couple years ago I shot a fox running through a field that was carrying a peanut butter jar in his mouth.
