What type of slate-style (friction) call do you like most? And why? Thx!

I prefer a crystal call overall. High pitched and raspy, like young hen. You can get loud with a crystal to cut through those spring winds. Moisture doesn't affect it like slate.
I do have all of the above and they each have their own sound. I normally carry a crystal, aluminum and slate in the field.

Cane Creek pro custom slate with a Woodhaven bell tip birch striker around $40
If you want to step it up a bit, Steve Reeve's make Supreme calls and the pinnacle, puredeath and siren are devastating on birds. High pithed glass with good rasp. Around $100

I use Woodhaven Calls, got all 4 but use the glass and slate the most nice sound to all just a preferance to them.

I wasn't sure if I would like a slate call or not. I bought the Primos Ole Betsy just to try it. It turned out to be a really good call for me to learn on. It took a little getting used to and a lot of practice, but it has brought in the thunder chickens over the years. I also have a Primos Freak which is my new favorite. It is easier to call on than my other slate and the leg strap is great for running and gunning. I haven't really used anything but a slate so I can't really help you there.
