"Shoot them and let them runoff and die", that was a quote by a hunter on this forum. He was talking about hogs but I have to still disagree. I think everything deserves a quick humane kill, unless we are talking rapists and child molesters but thats another topic. Yes I have commented on other posts that are similat but I guess I respect wildlife too much. Any feedback?

good lord, do you have any idea how ranchers in south and west Texas deal with hogs and yotes? they hire a sharp shooter and a helicopter. They fly over their ranch and kill the hogs & yotes with slug shotguns and leave them to rot! I have had to tie up dead hogs and drag them out of my hunting area just so i could sit in my deer stand.......

I guess i ain't gettin no love on this topic. Well all i know is that I am teaching my kids about being ethical outdoorsmen. I understand hogs are not protected by bag limits or seasons but as hunters we should strive for vital shots. Next time yall shoot deer just gut shoot em, they destroy crops too!!!!

You have to understand that most of these farmers are not hunting hogs and yotes....they are protecting their investment. They cant control the rain and summer droughts...but they can and will control the devestating destructive nature of wild hogs and coyotes. Let some varmint reach into your pocket and destroy your investment and see how you react! jskin...you need to look at the big picture.....

hogs are not a game animal, they are a varmint. Strive for vital shots, but take any shot.

I know landowners who will revoke a lease if their hunters pass on hogs.

I had a good deal on a place one season (free) and the only stipulation was that I was required to shoot any hog I saw, even if it messed up my deer hunting. I shot every hog I saw.

I spoke to an old farmer the other day, and he told me about how hogs had destroyed over 80% of his wheat crop in 3 days...that was a HUGE blow to his farm and family.

I dont think you have ever been around them or seen the damage they do. IMO they are nothing more that a over grown rat and populate faster than a rat aswell. Do you want rat in your home or your feed shed eating and destroying everything you have invested in? I seriously doubt it. And i can bet you anything you wouldnt wait for a humane,"ethical" kill. If i were to bet, you have stomped a mouse or a rat with your boot (or penny loafer)and threw them out to rot. why would you start up another post about this anyways. the same people that read the first one see this one too. Get over it!

i guess he never killed a fly or sprayed poison on a bee nest.... he should spend some time down in a small farm town like the one I grew up in and see the pain these animals cause...in the words of Ron White...."you cant fix stupid...its foe ever!!!!!"

There is a difference. Hogs for the most part are an unwanted animal. They are not species that is to be managed or maintained for any specific reason. In other words they are to be considered varmints of the lowest kind. Sure they are fun to hunt and make for another opportunity to get out in the field. But again the difference is when you go afield it is to kill as many as possible.

Just fyi theses hogs present a danger to other game animals by competition for habitat, destroy crops and can absolutley desimate a good pasture.

And a final side note. Every hog you see while hunting and do not kill will produce no less than seven more in less than a year.

This is what you need to be teaching, ethical also includes maintaining habit and herd managment. And if you refuse to thin the herd to aide other true game species, you will find in short order that hogs is all you have to hunt.

No he didn't, kind of obvious. Thanks for that useless observation though.

He does however think you shouldn't just shoot them and leave them. That mind set does nothing but multiply the hog infestation. Shoot the darn things anytime and any place you can hit them. The goal is to kill them, I don't see where it makes a difference how they get killed as long as they die.

I guess I struck a nerve here guys. I think all you are missing the point of my post. Dont get on here bragging about what you can kill when anyone can go out and gun down an animal with 20 shots!! Be a real man and take pride in your equipment and your ability to make good shots. i understand that there are certain situations where aggressive actions are needed, its the humane thing that I'm trying to get across!! I hunt in Iowa and the deer up there are very destructive on the crops just like hogs can be here. I still want to achieve a perfect arrow every time.

He didn't say anything about leaving them either. He said making a quick humane kill. So what if he doesn't want them to suffer. Does this make him stupid as some on here have implied?

Your first post talks about why they should be killed, when no one said they shouldn't be killed. IMO THAT was a useless comment.

cbump...there is a distinct difference between hunting a single pig for meat and eradicating a crop destroying nuisance. Yes for god sake make a quick clean and humane kill for that single pig....but when the goal is to eradicate an animal that is destroying someones hard investment..than its game on!
