gonna buy the $89 solar light set up that they have at home depot and put in up as a hog light..it has "stay on"settings for 1 and 5 minutes...here are a couple of questions..how long should i set the "on"time 1 or 5 minutes and should i color the lens...also how long will it take for the hogs to get used to the light coming on?I have had the feeder feeding corn for about 9 mounths and they are hitting it pretty hard..My optics are not that good on my 7 mag and am gonna try this setup..any info would be appreciated...I have taken lots of hogs, but with very little lighting..I have had some bad hits because of the lighting situation..

We use white solar lights and Hogs don't even seem to notice.

It is a normal white light, and the hogs don't mind it. I have 3 of them. Set it for 1 minute, as long as there is movement under the light it will stay on. The one minute feature is only for when no movement is present.

Hey Brad, I'm wanting to put some on my feeder too, I have a question. I think I've seen pics of your set-up. Does the solar panel work OK if they're hung upside down?

Not sure what you mean by upside down, but as long as they get sun it should be fine. If you mean no direct sunlight I don't think it would work very well.

I found some solar sidewalk lights here a while back. I couldn't tell if the charge panel was fixed, or adjustable. I was thinking about wiring 'em, upside down to the feeder legs or varmint cage. Guess I'll have to look at 'em closer.

As long as you can point the solar panel towards the sun it should be fine.

Here's the ones I use from Tractor Supply for about $59.00. After just a few nights the white LED lights don't bother the hogs at all, deer either. I have mine set with a 30-second "on" time. For deep-woods set-ups, with little or no sunlight, you can take the back off and replace the rechargable AA batteries (5 of them, included with the unit) with regular alkalines and not even worry about the solar charger. They'll last a few weeks that way, depending on level of activity of course. I tried charging the units up with the rechargable batteries in them and hanging them without the solar panels but they don't last but a couple of nights without charging every day. I have mine hanging from feeders that are fairly squirrel resistant. If I used them where squirrels could get to them I'd run the solar panel wire through conduit, or at least heavy rubber air hose. I bet they'd be chewed through in one day otherwise.
