Can Young County deer population support a 2 buck season? I hunted just south of Bryson nearly 30 years ago on 900 acres and if we did not hook up by Thanksgiving, our chances declined as mid-December approached.

Yes, in the current context. The second buck has to have at least one unbranched antler. Spikes, even yearling spikes have been few on our place just west of Graham. This in fact is the first year I know of more than one and that is only because of the game camera. I have personally seen only one of the two in the pictures. But what has been happening is that no one wanted to use that one buck county tag on a spike. So when we did have one it usually grew into a bigger spike each year and thus allowed to pass on those genetics. I only took one of those spikes in the past because it was the last day of season. Now we have the option of removing them if we so choose and will especially do so with any mature ones seen. It can only help in our case.

Unlike in the past, we now have a lot of hunting pressure on all sides of our lease. One thing this year we have noticed. Does are just not being seen on our place. None, which is unusual. I passed some large bucks the last two years and we have not seen any of those either. But we do have lots of small 8 points. More than ever before. Has the new AR rule changed the demographics of what the area hunters and hunters surrounding our lease are killing. I don't know, and what has been seen with a few hunts on our place during one season is not a good barometer to tell, but it will be interesting to see what changes if any we notice with the deer herd on the long term.

All I know is my Deer season pretty much ends in about three weeks due to a planned bird hunting trip and like you say, the deer do get harder to find in that area as the season progresses. At this point with my limited deer hunting time I will be happy with any legal deer so I can get some venison in the freezer. The wife and I finished off last seasons Jalapeno Cheese Smoked Sausage several weeks ago and want more.
