I'm sure it's been asked before, but has anyone used peanut butter much as an attractant? How well does it work, best height to mount it, crunchy or smooth(I'm serious), are raccoons a problem, etc. I was thinking of putting some out in addition to deer corn.

I've used it, I used smooth. Didn't see any real action with it though.

I mounted it to a tree about waist high. Take off the lid and either nail it to a tree or screw it to a tree and then screw on the peanut butter.

I tried it as well, but no luck at all. I wouldn't waste my time with it.

We used it for about 20 years with pretty good success. Nail the lid to a tree and cut out the bottom of the jar.

I've never used it but have thought about it. Instead of making it a coon feeder, why not hang it from a tree with a bunch of holes in the bottom and sides? I think you could coat the string/wire with some kind of relatively odorless petroleum jelly or something to keep squirrels and ants from getting at it.

That way, you would have the scent.

The best attractant I've found is Horse and Mule feed. Not much of that around the country either but it certainly works.

you can also buy a bale of oats and scatter it around the feeder 1 layer at a time as needed. i also use rice bran. it cost about the same as a bag of corn. you just pour a pile of it on the ground where you are hunting and wait for the deer. rice bran is the base for com'er deer powder.

rice bran really does work well as well as the peanut butter..just screw the lid to a tree high enough so the deer can eat from it so the pigs can't get to it and cut the end of the plastic jar off and watch em go at it another thing that works well is take a 35 gal plastic drum and cut 3 inch holes on three side right at the bottom of it and drive T-post against it so it can't be knocked over and put alfalfa pellets in it so they just kinda spill out and can eaten at any time.

horse and mule "sweet feed" is potent and will pull deer into your area FAST. The peanutbutter does work though pretty well, however be ready to shoot some coons because they love it as much as the deer.

Sweet feed and horse feed work great..... if there arent any cows, horses or goat on your property. If you do have farm animals then you will have another problem lol. We used to fence off and area with barbed wire that only the deer could get in to and place the feed in that area.

I tried it a couple of times and you could tell the coons really liked it.

Works like a charm, Screw the lid to a tree and then drill hole in the bottom of the jar after you screw it on. Coons love it too but so did our deer!!!
