Does anyone know how the hunting is in Collin county? It is where I live now and would like to hunt close to the house some if possible.

There are deer in Collin County but don't get caught shooting one! In fact there was a 6 point hit on 75 just South of 121 last Saturday!

Closed by state legislature.. just like Dallas County. Would take and actual "act of Congress" to get it open!

Don't know texas just has certain counties that are restricted and collin is one of them. Best thing you can do is get a annual hunting guide free at walmart explains all restrictions for every county in texas. I hunt in caddo grasslands north of Honey grove can use rifle. LBJ grasslands in Decauter is shotgun or mussleloader only. good luck!

I appreciate it fellas. I never thought to look it up. I figured since northern Collin was fairly open there was hunting.

20 years ago there was not a huntable population but not sure what the excuse is now.

I used to work for USACE at Lavon and attempted to host a youth hunt several times, but TPWD wouldn't touch it.... Wouldn't even put it on and let us host.

Unless you have a high powered politician (state) in the back pocket, spend your time looking for somewhere else to hunt!

The truth hurts.

A friend of mine said he spoke with one of the local Game Wardens and according to him said that colling county may be getting a bow and shotgun season soon.

All speculation and sometimes I do not trust my buddy. Has anyone else heard this?

I e-mailed the TP&W last year about it and the guy said that there wasn't enough info. on the population of deer in and around Collin County to open any kind of deer season in the near future.

I have heard and seen pics of some very nice bucks running this area also and heard of some big ones seen.

Here is the issue, sorry poachers! If dirt bag poachers would keep there sorry butts away from this area, there might be a limited hunting season for this area in the future, but the poachers are screwing it up for everyone. If they would stay out and let the population continue to grow a limited season would be feasable in the future. I know the local GW is working overtime trying to combat poachers in this area, and have heard he already caught 2 sorry poachers that killed huge bucks. I am glad he caught them, and I hope they rot!
I have grown up in this area as a deer hunter, and have always been frustrated at NO DEER or deer hunting season in this area. Now in the last several years the very small amount that was around is growing to decent numbers, but if selfish poachers aren't stopped they are going to ruin any possible future hunting for everyone.
The deer herd throughout Collin county has grown and expanded a great deal int he last 5-10 years, but it still needs larger numbers to support any type of hunting season.

I bumped into a guy at Lavon last year who admitted that he was hunting deer, and was surprised when I told him he better not because it's illegal. trout
