Well I went to Bass Pro Shop and they were not only packed, but they had no .357 revolvers at all. They do carry the SP- 101 occasionally, but didn't have any in stock. I didn't go anywhere else because the kids were enjoying the festivities and I had to be home in time for UFC.

It's my primary carry gun. Hard to beat. Weighs less than a mini glock (not by much though), and you can carry a reload in a speed strip in your pocket (or carry two of them in any horizontal cell phone pouch, right there on your belt).

I have 5 S&W .357's. That ought to tell you something haha. I'm not the best shot with a hand gun, but I can set up a paper plate and dump cylinder after cylinder into it, offhand from 30-40 yards.

I bought a used smith and wesson 66 a few years ago. I really like it. It has a 2.5 inch barrel and I carry it with ease. I have used it to dispatch several snakes with shot cartridges.

I really like my 6" Stainless Ruger GP-100. It's a beefy revolver that will allow you to shoot anything from lightly loaded 38 caliber wad cutters for someone who just want to punch some holes in paper to heavy loaded 357 mag.

I agree I have the exact pistol and finally got to put a couple of cylinders through it this week-end. Granted I was using 38's but it was smooth, accurate and hardly had any kick.

I don't know that a Blackhawk would be considered an ideal carry gun...

It's worth it to wait until you find a nice clean used 686 with a 4" tube; I have one with a 2 1/2 bbl that's been ported and it's a great, great revolver.

S&W for the single action pistols. I have one in 357mag with a 8 1/2 inch barrel and it's a dream to shoot.

You got your SA and DA mixed up!

thanks for the catch, I usually do

You can find Ruger Security Six or Service Six in 4" and you will not be disappointed. I love mine in the 4". Security Six is adjustable sites and Service Six is fixed sites. I need to find a Service Six now. Have had several 686's and they are great guns too, maybe better, but for the price you cannot go wrong with Ruger. You need to pick up some and see where they point naturally. The SP does not point right to me but the GP does. I like the N frame of the Smiths better than any frame. The thing about 357 being more accurate than the 44, I don't agree with. Had several 629's and a 29 and they all were very accurate.

Hit the gun shows you can find them all the time there. I have picked up a few there in the $450-$550 range all orginal with box and paperwork. The S&W 66 and 686 are my favorite in a 4 inch barrel. I also found them in 2 inch barrels great for concelment. Mom and Dad carried these as police officers that is why I liked them so much too. I have theirs they carried too but these are my safe queens. Good luck.

I went with a cheap Taurus 605 with a 2 1/4 barrel.

The idea was to get in cheap, learn revolver shooting, and upgrade to something better.

Well, I can shoot it lights out, easy to operate, reliable, I can shoot target 38 all day and not break the bank.

I need nothing else. I have enough guns.

Ruger SP101. If you care more about concealing, get a smith chief.

If you are a big guy, get a .44 special 5 shot.
