I don't, but a couple friends on 2 different ranches have for several years. If your place is like theirs, you will probably see more bucks than does, and more turkeys than anything. Unfortunately, many if not most of the bucks will probably have broken tines by now. They really duke it out out there.

We are 21 miles out of Eldorado on 190. We have had a pretty good season so far. The bigger mature deer have just started moving good in the last week or so. I am leaving this thursday to head out for 4days. Going to be freezing cold all weekend!!

If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting.

We used to hunt a place about 20 miles out of Eldorado on 190 owned by a rancher named Oglsby. We had 10k acres and the place was on both sides of 190. We hunted the place for about 17 years. The racnher passed and a guy by the name of Mertz took it over, he was a piece of work.

Mertz... interesting. I, too, hunted a place last year owned by that guy. Never met him, never saw him. But we hunted 2000acs about 12 miles southwest of town-- SUCKED! His reputation isn't the greatest, either. That part of the country is "supposed" to have really good deer, though. My experience wasn't so positive.

I think I know the ranch you are talking about...did you see/shoot any good deer on that place?

I had a buddy that looked at one of Mertz's ranches a few years back. He got on that place and the last year or so was brutal due to the drought.

Yes, tons of deer and some nice ones as well. Lots of other game too, Quail, Doves, Turkeys, etc. which Oglsby let us hunt without an issue. Oglsby was one of the nicest guys I ever met and he asked Mertz to take care of his hunters when he passed, well he passed during the season and Mertz took over. During the last hunt in January we had the pleasure of meeting this d-bag.

My dad and a friend busted a covey of quail and when they were hunting them up when he pulls up, slams on the breaks (he is on the phone at the time) and jumps out of the truck, THROWS his phone in the cabin and processeds to give my old man and friend a tongue lashing about how they dont have a quail lease only a deer lease. The long and short of it we end up telling him to go f himself, all 11 hunters packed their stuff up and left. 17 years on the place, I shot my first deer when I was 8 years old there and have tons of memories.

Our spot is located near the radar installation, Pave Paws. We have seen no movement of anything big. We're pretty much resigned to only shoot spikes and does this season and let the lease grow up a bit.

We are a section south of Oglesby, down Co rd 119. I just got back and the rut is on. Lots of fresh rubs and scrapes, bucks are nose down running. Big uns just coming in.

You should get out there right now!

Glock: It's like a hammer, not very pretty but works when you need it.
