Have had lease 22 miles south of Sonora for 21 years. This is the first opening weekend that I have ever seen that the mature bucks are already rutting. Shot a nice 10 that was chasing a doe, black hocks - swelled neck - and STUNK. Anybody else found this on their lease?

I returned from south Texas this morning, and the rut is not even close.

I agree Hardwired, the big bucks are still hanging together, eating near the does, we got a long time yet. Saw some big 8's starting to tear up some bushes though.

Just got back from our place in La Salle County (Cotulla). Bucks are still running together. I saved some vacation and we have a 9 day trip coming Dec 10- Dec 19 on our place. Mid Dec rut every year like clock work where we are.

Nephew came by this morning and hunts in LaSalle county, and he said it's been really slow and not seeing many deer, but he shot a buck this morning that scored 166 B&C gross, and last week one of the other hunters there killed a 165 B&C gross buck, and the rut hasn't even started down there, so it's going to be interesting when it finally does kick in.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I'm about 40 miles west of you and we haven't seen signs of the rut coming in yet (as of two weeks ago). The bucks were still in fag mode. Hopefully it'll be coming on this weekend.

South of sonora off 277? I'm right around there, went the second weekend of the year and didn't see any signs of rut. just got back from the thanksgiving hunt and have started to see some early signs of rut, a little chasing here and there, but overall bucks have no interest when they are around does. The first 2 weeks of december is when it usually hits, and this year seems no different.
