I haven't been seeing many deer around our ranch in San Saba County this year; a huge acorn crop keeps them away from the feeders. All bets are off when the rut starts, though. This nice 10-point was acting really stupid when the 110-gr. ProHunter from my 6.8SPC ruined his day.

That's a great lookin' buck! Congrats!
When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible. Dale Earnhardt

Are you sure thats not a 110 grain prohunter? Yes, he said, with sheepish grin on face. I haven't loaded more that a few hundred of them. You'd think I'd look at the box...

Nice buck!Where abouts are yall hunting. until this year I hunted in San Saba,We also hunted in Goldwaithe. Good deer out there. Are they done running does yet? is it still real green? Our ranch is located between San Saba and Cherokee. Unlike some other areas of Central Texas, there has been no drought in San Saba. Late Summer/Fall rains have made everything green and there is plenty of forbs for the deer to eat. Even worse, there is a record acorn crop and the deer aren't coming to the feeders. For the first time in many years I am finding corn left on the ground and piling up--even the hogs aren't eating it! As of yesterday(11/28) there were still signs of rut activity going on in the area.
