It is great to see more women and kids showing up in the photo section...... About time we get more of that..... I love that more women and kids are getting into the sport of hunting.......
Spend time with the ones you love. Time is not guaranteed.

The more you get the women and kids involved, the more our sport grows. It is great to share the times in the field with the wife and kids.

I agree with including the women & kids, but let me ask how you guys feel about their involvement after the kill. I only ask because it's happened a couple of times at our lease, and while it never really bothered me, it really seems to annoy a few of our other members. A couple of years back, my 11 year old nephew shot his first buck. He was excited about shooting the buck and having his picture taken, but wanted nothing to do with gutting or skinning the deer. He plainly said that he would never shoot another deer if he had to dress it & skin it, and to this day, he's not been hunting again. This year, on opening weekend, the wife of one of our members shot a buck and was the same as my nephew. Again, it didn't bother me that she wanted nothing to do with it after the pictures, but it really bothered some of the other guys. Speaking for myself, my wife has said a hundred times that she doesn't mind sitting in the stand with me, but she has no interest in pulling the trigger. But if she did, I would gladly take care of it for her.

You have to explain to them that the work doesnt start till after they kill something. If they tell you that dont want to clean it then you should be prepared to do it yourself but try to show them how to do it. My first time seeing a deer gutted was weird but now I look forward to getting my hands bloody everytime I go hunting.

I haven't been able to get my wife into the hunting yet, at least not the going part. She supports me 100% and loves the mounts on the wall and loves the meat. I will keep working on her though. She grew up with her dad hunting all the time and went with him a few times, but hasn't gone with me yet. I am taking my boys this weekend and we are taking 2 of their friends who have never been deer hunting. I have made my boys take them to the range and shoot their guns to make sure they won't have any problems and I have told both friends "if you want to hunt, you have go down a few weekends a year and work. It is all part of it." I am actually excited about taking them and hearing what they have to say about it afterwards. Both boys shoot often but have never been deer hunting. I will keep working on the wife though. Wish us luck we will be heading out in a few hours.

Oh, and the best part, my wife has a list of animals she wants me to get and have mounted. I just have to come up with the money. First on the list right now is a bobcat.

It's funny. My fiance' is exactly opposite. She wants to go hunting with me, but doesn't want to shoot the deer. She just wants to help gut it and skin it. Weird I know, but I'm sure that if she takes a shot at a deer 1 time, she will be hooked to the Whole experience. I'm taking her on her first hunting trip in a couple weeks. Should be fun...

Heck to keep her enjoying hunting with me I would cook the meals, do the dishes, gut the deer, plus whatever else her heart desires.

There are some that consider gutting & skinning part of shooting a deer. As I said, I see it both ways. kwrhuntinglab, sorry if I hijacked this thread. This discussion probably should have been in another thread.
