Lookin into buyin a boat, found a 14ft faltbottom w/trolling motor, and a 12ft flatbottom with 10hp motor for a little bit more. My questions is, will the 14ft be more beneficial as far as holding more people/gear and more stable?

Depends on the width, but yes the 14' should hold more weight. However, the 12' comes with a motor for the same price?

you might wanna get the larger boat. I bought a 14'er with a 25hp and i couldnt carry more than two people with all our hunting gear. so i bought a 18' go-devil boat. can you afford to put a motor on the 14'er?

can't afford to put a motor on the 14'er right now, I'd have to use the trolling motor till prob next season. No it's not the same price, its about $150 more, which is cheaper than a motor

Save yourself the time & money, get a bigger boat with a decent size engine. Unless you are just using this at some private land to get from lake shore to trees or some very short distance, you will eventually want more boat and more engine.

another issue is the 12ft looks nicer and is currently registered whereas the 14ft needs some work and it's registration is expired

whatever you do, DO NOT buy a boat without a title.
By the way, I have a 13' (with title, currently registeted), painted came, on a good trailer for sale for $400. I sold the engine the other day.
PM me your e-mail address and I will send you pictures.

From my experiance boats are money pits. Always expect to pay for something to be fixed once you bring it home. If you factor in the extra money you will be spending then there will be no surprises a month after purchase.

It has a title, just registration is expired. Round Rock is a little bit of a drive for me, but my email address is L_screen10@yahoo.com. what is the weight limit on the boat?

boats are cheap. outboards are not. Id get the 12 ft with the motor, if you want bigger, find a cheap boat. But like mentioned before..
DO NOT BUY A BOAT WITHOUT A TITLE. YOU MAY NEVER BE ABLE TO REGISTER IT.
I like spoonie, his humor is dryer than my duck lease.

I think the question that still needs to be answered is what will you be using it for? You have to plan ahead when you are on a tight budget. You will be sacrificing something because you don't have the cash to go all out. With a 12ft you'll be putting in back water areas, creeks, ponds, etc. Places you don't have to travel far and probably traveling by yourself. The 14 ft is more stable and hold more gear and can probably handle bigger water, but like you said, it doesn't have a motor so what good is it then? If the 12ft will do what you need it to do, get it. I wouldn't want to rely solely on a TM. There isn't enough power to move you through junk and get back in where you need to. Plus you run the risk of dead batteries and that is a serious PITA.

get the motor. as stated you can always find a bigger boat for cheaper. the 10hp will push a bigger boat when you get one. i just traded for a 12fter, i have a 6hp on it and pushes it fine. at most you will have a 3 man limit. you'll just have to adjust seating and gear placement for space. good luck
