We have some regular old Billy Dixons on this board. My longest shot was just a tad over 200 yards with a Tikka T3 chambered in 7mm Rem.

do it to it... most of my stand set-ups present me with shots from 200-1000yds... never fails though that the deer usually get within the 75yd mark.

I can't even see 350 yards let alone take a shot that far. Maybe one of these days. I am dang impressed by some of the shots I've read about on this thread. Nice work to all cheers

Doe at 278 yards with Remington 300 Win Mag. Unfortunately, all other shots have been under 175 yds.

Wild hogs, 1500 meters on the Ft Polk, Louisiana 50 Cal Machine Gun Range, March of 1968. They were more fun to shoot at than the old relics of tanks, APC and jeeps.

150 yards, 20 ga single shot, first quail. Dad said he must have looked back when I shot laughing and didn't see the barbed wire fence. He was in my bag, so I counted him as my first! Proud 12 year old...

On a deer around 400 yards +/- 25yards 270 winchester
On a turkey 120 yards in the head 30-06
Free hand Axis, Axis on top of Hill us way below (at least 200 yards straight up) in a jeep. The guide said axis somebody shoot and within a split second I shot downing it in his tracks. The guide said it was the most impressive shot he had ever seen. Felt pretty good about that even thou had good gash in my eyebrow from the angle of the shot with 7mm Wtby. Mag

Yeah and some grunt like me had to tell you where to place the shots. One in front, then one in back and finally fire for effect! We sure were glad to hear those rounds whistling overhead.

Don't laugh to hard, he was in the Artillery. 105's have a long range, real long, but it took an Infantryman to tell where to aim.

I remember the FDC, we usually called in the coordinates to the the fire base/LZ or where ever they kept the big toys. I only remember a couple of times we had an Arty officer with us.

FADAC, no idea, either before or after, but guessing after my time. Been a civilian since 1969.

105's are for varmint hunting, we also had 4-175's for the serious bidness. The boy's on the ground never seemed to care which one we sent out just as long as we did it quick!

Good call and story. Did the 105mm use the short .50 cal spotter round? It is amazing how accurate the big artillery guys get.

The BB with 16 inch gun could put 2200 lbs HE downrange 25 miles. That over the horizon.

We had 5inch 38s. For pratice one time they put out a 100 foot tall weather ballon weighted to stay on surface. After about 20 rounds at 5 miles they gave up and sent out the sniper in a launch to nail it. The fire control guys were not very happy people.

We never used them but I've seen them mounted on the 106 MM M40A1 Recoilless. With the new lazer guided rounds they're getting one shot hits even on moving targets.

302 yards
95 grain Nosler ballistic tip 243 handload
Remington 700
Bushnell 3x9x40
At sundown, sitting in a leanup stand using a Cabella's bipod braced between my legs.
14 point buck, double lung and found pieces of the bullet in the exit blood. Buck traveled about 65 yards and fell over.

Did the same shot, same location only about 285 yards on a 260 pound boar hog last year.

I LOVE long shots!!
