I think he is 5.5 or 6.5 what do u think? He broke 2 tines, he is a 10 and we have alot of 8s so I only want to shoot him if he is 5.5 or older.

if he is a 10 and all you have are some 8's, why not let him walk another yr so you could atleast take him while he is not all broken up and get another yr of his genetics.

true.....we have a mix between 8/9's so that would be a good idea to let him breed one more year or at least finish this year out...his horns are ok but bad for that age if he is in fact 5.5 plus

its just hard I have never seen a deer older then 5.5...usually 4.5 is rare because of all the trigger happy small land owners around thats y its throwing me off!!!!!!!! like his face/neck look real old but his body looks 4.5 bc no gut or sagging but then again its a down year

I'm no expert by far, but it looks to me like he is in decline, his neck and brisket look older than 4.5 even though his body says he is younger. confused2

CC, He looks 5.5 to me and healthy. I don't know your area but it may be worth giving him a pass this year. However, if your place is small and low fence your neighbors will probably not be as concerned as you are about his potential as a breeder.

The deer is probably 3.5 to 4.5 yrs. Older deer will have an arched back ans a sway gut. Your deer is straight backed and very little if any gut hanging down.

He is no older than 3.5 .. He still has the race horse body, long and slender, his face is the same, long and slender. He need a couple more years if you can give it to him...

Not an old deer. Couple that with the broken tines, and I don't think that is a shooter.

Depends... I don't think he's that old, but if he's what I wanted to shoot and he's legal, bam.

After reading some of these post it's no wonder the average age of deer harvested is 2 yrs.
