I need to get a new rattle 'device'. Anybody use a rattle bag w/success? If so which one has worked for you? What about the plastic antlers? I had a Primos rattle bag a while back but never had any success w/it. It sounded too 'tinky' instead of 'clanky'. Thanks

Plastic antlers work better than the bag and other BS, but Real antlers are the way to go! Go shed hunting after the season, lets you scout for next year and possibly find some rattling horns. I've found that sheds from 2 different bucks work best!

I use a rattle bag... works great. Rattled and grunted in a 140 class non typical opening day. Had 5 other bucks pour out into the field with him. I have rattled in many bucks in the past. I will admit... you do have to work the bag correctly to get the sound right.... with antlers it's easier.... just bang them together.

I too have used the rattlin' bag with success. It takes a little practice to make it sound right, but it isn't difficult. Some of the plastic antlers don't sound right either and the real ones seem to decay and break.. All have their pros and cons..

Rattling bags are short range calls. I like to generate quite a bit of volume and cover more country. I am so picky that I only rattle "barehanded" to get more sharp, loud, crisp sounds. The plastic pieces in a bag only help supress the volume.
I agree that the synthetics are a hugh improvement over the bag but also agree that there is nothing like the real thing. One exception to this rule is that I prefer the synthetic antlers when it is raining.
I have a pet set of rattling horns that I took from a buck I killed in 1987. They are still my favorites, lots of volume but not too big to carry.
Adios,
Gary

I have a rattle bag but have never used it!

I think they sound good to me and according to Larry Wieshun you dont even have to sound much like real antlers to rattle in a buck! Just as long as it dont have a mettalic pinging noise to it then it should work!

I use them occasionally, but I must stink at them. I never get any response.

I like the fact that they're easier to carry than sheds, though.

Used rattle bag last weekend. Had 2 bucks coming in to see what in the heck was going on. This is after one of the bucks was walking away from me, and I told my son to watch this. Hit the bag and the buck turned around and proceeded to come check it out. Then he circled around us to our other side, and he came out and this time, had another buck come out too. So, it does work. Two years ago had a buck nearly run me and my son over coming to check out the action.

I bought the pack rack this year and I like it a lot. You can make different sounds, high pitched or low pitched just by holding them tighter. Easy to use and I did rattle a buck in on opening weekend with them. Problem was that I wasn't sure if they would work and he sneaked in without me seeing him. All I saw was him running off.

I got the pack rat also. It also is great to get my 4 month old to quit crying. She also loves the grunt blaster. Both will make her stop crying and smile. My predator call only makes her squint and my dogs go crazy. Who needs kids toys. My girl is getting game calls for xmas.

I had a bag and lost them somewhere. I liked them. My best rattles are a pair I cut off a slick six from south texas...

I've never had any luck with artificial sounds.

Well, what I mean by that, sir, is... if you was to put me and this here sniper rifle anywhere up to and including one mile of Adolf Hitler with a clear line of sight, sir... pack your bags, fellas, war's over. Amen.--SPR[image]

Okay I will bite on this thread.....I have absolutely used a bag on two of my 8 points. Came in so fast and so angry...these two were easily my favorite hunts. This year I haven't had much luck but I did buy a new bag. It's by woods wise....I went and bought the grunt wheeze today. I am going to use it thanksgiving weekend and see if the combination works in my favor!
