Got a problem with a guy on the property ajoining my lease. I have a box blind in a right-of-way that runs north and south and a feeder about 50 yds. downhill from it giving me about a 25 degree down-angle shot and the property line(fence) is about 30 yards past the feeder. The right-of-way continues on for over a mile. On the other side of the fence, the grade starts going back up again and about 150-200 yards from my box,is about level to my box again where the next power pole is in the middle of the R.O.W. Even to that pole, there is a 20 yard wide row of trees on the left and forest on the right and his field and feeder are west of me. The guy on the other side of the fence has a box blind on the other side of the trees to the left approx. 400 yds. from me and it can not be seen from my box. Opening day,he parked his truck in the middle of the ROW behind the pole and walked back to his stand. He can not miss the fact that he parked 150 or so yds. from my feeder right in my shooting lane. Yesterday evening,he came in about 20 minutes before dark, drove way past his stand, almost inside 100 yards of my feeder,in the middle of the ROW,got out of his truck,(without a gun mind you),and walked up the hill and over to his stand, glancing back at my box twice before he turned left into the trees. He ruined the rest of the evening hunt for me.What should I do about this guy? any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will be shooting towards his property. Not good. Move your feeder.

Sounds like a miss, pass through or ricochet has the possibility of crossing the property line. Not good!!!

Reverse your set up or move it all together.

IMO, if there is huntable habitat cover (as opposed to open pasture) on both sides of the fence, hunters on both sides should be free to hunt all the way to the property line. And just as the case when dealing with your next door neighbor, some measure of communicaiton and cooperation is required.

The problem comes in when someone without any huntable cover, decides to put up a feeder in an open pasture right next to property line where there is cover on the other side of the fence. In such cases, it's obvious the action was taken to "pull" deer off the neighbor's land. But if the deer are "naturally" moving between the two properties, I don't see where either hunter can cry foul. JMHO.

I'd say he's probably somewhere on a forum griping about the guy with the feeder to close to his property line argue I'd say move to where you are shooting into your property not out of it
but what do I know

i agree with reversing the stand...like TXvarminthntr said, you guys are probably exclusively griping about eachother on different forums. I see no wrong on either part, but somehting should be done to avoid any further conflict!

The problem with reversing the setup is, since he's on a hill, he would either be at eye level with the deer or shooting uphill. Neither ideal.

I don't think putting a feeder 30 yards from a property line and then hunting it with a rifle is a good idea. Unless you've been across the fence how do you know for sure what is on the other side? About the only exception would be an extremely dense stand of cover between the feeder and the fence. Something that was guaranteed to stop a bullet.

You can't control what he does, but IMO you should move your setup where you are not shooting across the property line. The feeder 30 yards from the fence is nothing for a rifle shot. I know that may not be ideal for your setup, but IMO is the right thing to do. Also, he may just be trying to make it obvious to you that he is there and you are shooting directly at his property. I say this having no problem with how close people hunt to fencelines as long as they are not shooting across the property line.

We have a hunter that has a blind set up about 30 yards off the fenceline, shooting at a feeder about 130 yards away on the fenceline, leaving the path of a bullet directly down our fenceline for quite a distance which is also our only road into that part of our property. We have talked to the landowners, who lease the property, but nothing has changed over the years. Nothing we can do, but it is incredibly unsafe and makes us very nervous when entering over there. We make sure it is obvious when we are going to be coming up that road - not to interfere with the hunting but for safety purposes. We just keep talking to the landowner hoping one day they will fix this.

Isn't it illegal to shoot across property lines anyway?

IMO it sounds like you are the one that is too close to the fence line. I myself have a couple feeders pretty close to the fenceline but nobody is hunting remotely close to me on the adjoining property. If they are a 100yds or more from their fenceline, then you probably should be too. That was a rule on our last lease. We couldn't set a stand or feeder 100 yds from any fenceline. I'd move if you feel he is screwing up your hunting.

I WOULD HAVE TO TRY TO SHOOT IT ACROSS THE FENCELINE TO MAKE A BULLET GO ONTO HIS PROPERTY BECAUSE OF THE DOWNWARD ANGLE IS SO STEEP. MY PROPERTY THERE IS ABOUT 90 YARDS FOR ONE END OF THE PROPERTY TO THE FENCE NORTH TO SOUTH. THIS IS THE ONLY CLEARING ON THIS 50 ACRE PATCH ON THE LEASE.PAPER LAND,CAN'T CUT CLEARINGS. I AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT HITTING HIM OR HIS TRUCK. THERE IS NOTHING TO RICOCHET OFF OF AND ALL MY BULLETS IF I MISS WILL BURY UP IN THE HILLSIDE. I HOLD A EXPERT MARKSMANSHIP MEDAL FROM THE MILITARY.IF I MISS A SHOT FROM 60 YARDS,I WOULD QUIT HUNTING. I WOULD HAVE TO RAISE MY MUZZLE A FOOT AND A HALF TO HIT HIS TRUCK AND MORE TO SEND ONE PAST HIS STAND. I CAN SEE HIS WHOLE SET-UP FROM THE FENCE ROW,SO I DO KNOW WHAT IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL. HE IS HURTING HIS OWN HUNTING MORE BY PARKING WHERE HE DOES BECAUSE ON 3 MORNINGS THAT HE WAS NOT THERE,DEER HAVE CROSSED RIGHT WHERE HE PARKS. THE 2 DAYS HE PARKED THERE,NO DEER.

Obviously HE dosen't like YOUR setup and wants you to take the hint so.... either take the hint and change your setup ( I agree with everyone esle who said you shouldn't be shooting towards the fence) OR find a way to talk it over with the guy, OR just deal with it...

Are you shooting downhill or uphill?

shooting downhill,a pass thru would immediately go into the ground. More than likely I will be hunting this stand with the old 12 gauge.

3 choices, suck it up, move it, or talk to him.

Sorry, didn't mean to make you yell but in your post you said he was 150 yards from your feeder right in your shooting lane, so I assumed that is what it was - I didn't do the geometry to figure out the trajectory. Regardless, he doesn't know your marksmanship and frankly, that wouldn't matter to me if I'm on the other side. I'm not meaning to be difficult, but it sounds more like to me you are letting the limitations of your situation be his problem. Talk with him and maybe you can figure something out that works for you both. Good luck!

I certainly support you wanting to hunt this property but everything everyone else is saying is true. If you do not want to move your feeder or can not then you simply have to suck it up. He has the right to park his vehicle anywhere on his property he chooses.

Is he a owner or a leaser? By your post I am assuming your a leaser. Whether he owns or leases can make a difference of attitude he may have (not always but most likely). I think you need to have some communication with him.
