Williamson County is dead (no pun intended here). Nothing moving at this time. Maybe the front will stir things up. Then again we have just come out of the worst drought since the early 1950's. Many deer and other wildlife succumbed to the extreme conditions during the past two summers. There is definitely less wildlife around now then there ever has been. Rabies was really bad this past couple of years as well and put a big dent in the varmint population.

Has been slow in Knox county as well (northwest TX). Have seen very few deer these past two weekends. I did see a shooter buck yesterday AM, hot on the tail of a doe. They did not come into the feeder, and never presented a shot. The rut is "on" at our place. After this cold front, I think the activity will pick up, especially since there is not a moon at night as well.

Like someone else stated in this thread, the deer have been nocturnal at our place thus far (trail cam photos supports this).

I thought this was interesting. I hunt in West Texas south of Abilene. We are experiencing the same situation…WHERE are the deer? We have had plenty of rain fall… and there is lush green food for them to eat…but have seen no signs. The tanks and ponds all summer did not hold any water due to the drought... the ground just sucked it up!

It wasn’t until we got MORE than enough rain for the ground to FINALLY absorb and hold water in our tanks. And I would say this has happened over the last 2 months…

A buddy of mine came up with a good theory.

Since there was a Drought evident…The deer must have migrated to other regions in search of water. We hunt not to far from a lake…maybe 15 miles. It makes since. Maybe time will tell when they start drifting back towards are property. We have not seen any signs of deer movement. Just a thought…

Cowdog, our place is just south of Paint Rock. I don't know how far that would put us from you, but I think our conditions are probably the same. We have 2 ponds on our place, neither ever went dry though. We are not seeing quite the number of deer as last year, but I see anywhere from 3-6 bucks and 5-10 doe per sitting. The bucks were just starting to chase on opening weekend. I will be back this weekend. Hoping for better movement.

Albany has been a little slow. except Sat AM (14th). I had 12 bucks on my road. 12pt, 11pt,10pt, 9 and several 8s & scraps.
The rest of the weekend wasn't squat but scrap horns. Even a buddy hunted this morning to see a small buck and a couple of doe.

Fayette County is slow... one spike on cam the past 3 weekends..i have found an active deer trail that runs the length of my neighbor's high fence, through our property...between the fence and my feeder there is a small little thicket, with a natural water runoff. This weekend i put a cam on that trail in hopes to get something on it... i want to say that my ranch is a pass through .. but would be nice if they come to bed..haven't seen any scrapes.. but a lot of tracks.. just nothing on camera... we do have 4 bodies of water (all full) and a lot of post/blackjack oak......i think this yr... I'll be scouting most of all.. this is the first yr to hunt this ranch, and so far i'm not able to keep deer around... maybe when the acron's dry up!..

good luck guys!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. The first deer I have seen in the woods was this past Saturday night, just after shooting hours. I was walking out and noticed something light colored moving out in the middle of the field. I got the binos on it and it was definitely a big bodied deer. I watched for a minute but it was past dusk, and I could not make out if it had any antlers. It ran off after a minute.

I got to the car and turned on the lights to leave, and there was a doe trying to jump the fence onto the neighbors property. Those are the ONLY 2 deer I have seen in several weeks-and I've been out every weekend.

Throckmorton Co. has been slow as far as seeing good bucks. I have been seeing 6-10 deer per hunt, but nothing but does and small bucks. I see the deer just milling around and not coming to corn or any other supplemental feed. The deer seem to maybe starting to chase does.

Very slow in Harrison County( Marshall) in East Texas. Friend of mine and I hunted 4 days, morning and evening. I saw 2 bucks and he saw 2 does. Equates to 32 hrs each in the stand or walking. Everything is still very green and tons of acorns and it was 78 degrees for the evening hunts!

Sundays hunt ended with seeing 8 does, no sign of any bucks. The does feed on something out on a pasture for hours. No intrest in the feeders.

Picking up here, had 6 does at 2 of my feeders yesterday evening, and I got a doe I had been after this morning. Saw a total of 3 this morning.

It's been slow-going thus far at our lease in Stonewall. We've seen a few at times, but many morning and afternoon hunts have seen zero deer. It's either been too hot, too windy or too much natural forage to get the deer moving and coming in to the feeders.

Almost everyone has plenty of good deer on their camera's though.
