Pre-rut has definetly started out on our place in Sonora. Saw quite a few young bucks chasing does. Saw a few older bucks get a little peeved at younger bucks when does were around. I would guess that we are at least a week away from full blown rut.

What part of Sutton Co. are you hunting? We are in the North West, and seeing the same thing. Young's are chasing hard, and the older ones are still a little cautious.
Am I a bow hunter with a rifle problem, or a rifle hunter with a bow problem??? We may never know...

Also saw that bucks were getting testy with other bucks and lots of brush/tree rubbing and ground scraping around the feeders. I think I will be back this next weekend and definitely right after Thanksgiving.

Man I miss the days of Sonora, we had a sweet lease on the old Wallace Ranch. Never seen the rut earlier than Thanksgiving. I would get back on that lease faster than we got kicked off! We got the boot because some jacka$$ friend of my dads was useless.

We saw the same thing down this weekend, our place is off of the Caverns road, out past the Whitehead Ranch.
The young bucks were getting eager, and the older bucks were not happy to see them around, they were pushing them off pretty quickly once they arrived.
The Texas Dall sheep on our property are in full rut, and we got to see some awesome head busting this weekend.

Next door in Crockett Co. I heard a buck huffing and puffing following a doe. I heard him as I was walking to the truck. He was just off the road in the brush. He didn't even know I was following them until I was about 20 ft. away. It was too dark to make out his rack and too dark to shoot, but it was cool to sneak up on him. That was Nov. 8th.

Hope the rut is beginning north in Schliecher Cnty. Heading back there later this week since opening weekend came up dry.
