I spent my youth shooting various rifles with iron sights and killing anything from turtles to deer. If the shot is within your ability to make a clean shot, the short amount of time to get on the target and a quick second shot at another animal is athe advantages I like using them. I generally use a scoped rifle when hunting, as most of my shots are around 200-275 yards. I still enjoy hunting with the 45-70 or 44 WCF iron sighted once in a while.

The older Lyman peep sights look good on the classic's and I think you can get a fiber optic front that doesn't take away from the looks.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

My dad is 67 and still uses a .30-.30 with iron sights. He just don't trust technology.

I always used iron sights in Minnesota. Since I moved to Texas I now use a scope as the shots are usually farther than in the Minnesota woods.

Have several scoped guns, but occasionally get "one on one" with mother nature and use either the Hawken 50 or a Marlin 30:30 with iron sites. Have to get close though 'cause my 60 year old eyes are worn a bit. Besides that there is something neat about sneaking into an area with a BP Hawken and knocking down a deer at 50 yds.

I hunted with my Marlin 336 for years with open sites that include the "gold" bead on the front sight. Then I started complaining about having difficulty focusing on the sights and the target, you know that mature eyes thing. So my son "made" me scope my rifle. Now I am able to see everthing I need to see.

I grew up shooting and hunting with a model 94, now at 55 and poor eyesight the only open sights I use are on a mini 14, mini 30 and my favorite, my .45 colt Blackhawk Bisley.

I hunt almost exclusively with iron sights these days. In the last several years I have hunted almost exclusively with S/S double rifles, on foot, except in Alaska where I use a bolt rifle with a scope. I like to hunt on foot, and see just how close I can get before the shot. IMO, that is real HUNTING.
