I went on my annual quail trip to Turkey, TX - FREE!! Hunted Friday and found 11 covies. It was slow and the wind was blowing 30+. We only recovered 14 birds in 3 1/2 hours of hunting. Never saw a single and the covey flew 100 miles with the dang wind. They even ran into the cotton fields after we killed one out of the covey!!! Didn't even get a shot at 3 or 4 of the covies. It was still a blast even though my friend spent the whole afternoon the Childress Hospital with a giant thorn in his thumb from a hog hollow. What a wimp. It was a giant thorn though. I hunted with his dad and bro's. We attempted to mulie hunt after 4 pm. Too easy... Plus, they were not that big. I went back to Amarillo to my preg wife that evening and on Sat my buddy busted 18 covies with 38 birds with no wind. What a cheater!! Guess I should have stayed. Sat is always the best day for some reason.
