Has anyone hunted this area over the last week or so? I'm heading out tomorrow, just wanted to know what the deer activity was like. Thanks!

I'm about 15 - 20 miles north of there and it's wide open chasing right now. Rattling is working good in the mornings. Things slow down a bunch during the day with the heat. Afternoons are good for numbers, but haven't been seeing the better bucks in the pm.

I hunt just south of Lake Sweetwater. Opening weekend was ok. I watched a nice 10 pointer and six pointer at my feeder Saturday afternooon. They were more interested in the acorns I had dumped, than in the two does that walked by around 5pm. I was recovering from the flu and just didn't have it me to clean a deer. Hogs are coming to the feeders at night. We managed two bucks opening weekend. Both small 8's. At least the two shooters are "bucked" out. We only allow one buck per hunter on our lease. I've got pictures on my game cam of two nice 11 pointers in October. I'm hoping one of them show up this year. I'm hoping for colder weather the next weekend and Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving hunt has always been the time when I see or shoot the bigger bucks.

coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.

Thanks guys, we had about 5 trail cams out and up until about 1 week before bow season, we had great bucks on camera every time we went out. We haven't had the first decent buck on camera since then. Opening bow season when we went out, the pipeline guys were out there making a ton of noise. I figured that attributed to the fact that we didn't see anything that weekend, but it's been quiet out there for about a month and still nothing. I'm hoping the beginning of the rut and some cooler weather will get them moving again as well. Our ranch owner has said that the best time is Thanksgiving as well, I hope the wife understands!
