I am going to Kansas to pheasant hunt for the first time in my life. I'm really excited about it. My questions is this. What choke tube would be the best for this? I would think if the shots are fairly close, wouldn't you use a modified or improved? If so, what size shot do you boys prefer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
24 hours in a day. 24 beers in a case. Coincidence, I think not.

Modified will be fine.
Best thing you can do before you hunt these for the first time...is pattern your gun at 15 - 30 - 45 yards to see what your really putting in the air. Gives you a much better idea of what you are hitting that bird with

They both are effective and you should be fine with either. However if you'll be shooting lighter loads I'd go with the tighter patern, maybe even full choke.

Modified and a #5 or #6 shot and you'll be rockin. My first pheasant hunt...the first few birds that got up startled me, they're such big birds and make a pretty good noise when they take to flight. Can't wait till this Jan.

Heavy loads and loose chokes would be my advice.
I shoot a double so I usually shoot IC/M with 12ga 1 1/4oz of fast #5 or #6 lead.

Even on pen raised birds, we had to take shots at over 50 yards so be prepared. Most are 20 yards it seems though. I find quail easier.. Don't ask me.. I just do.... I guess that dang noise scares me too much.

All depends on situation and gun. What gun are you going to shoot and will you be hunting over pointing dogs. My Dad just got back from Kansas and every pheasant he killed were with his 28 gauge O/U with improved and modified chokes. He was shooting high brass 7.5 in the improved and 6 in modified for 2nd shot. Very effective for him but all those birds were shot over points by our dogs. Depending on your situation you may want improved or full.

i shoot a mod. with heavy #4's they work for me, the real key is to check the bird and not over react as they give you a massive mi
