Mills County, just north of Caradan at FM 575 and CR 232.

Deer movement was slower than usual opening weekend....but i did see 5 different young bucks.

fordtough, your in Caradan too ?

Sounds like they are starting to move, we didnt see too much movement on the opener as it was too hot in my opinion. I will be back down the weekend before Thanksgiving and hope the activity has picked up a bunch.

Hunting the Mills/Brown county line here. Real slow opener. No clouds at night and too much moon. Definitely some pre-rut activity with the spikes buttin heads some.

Hunted Mills with my Dad and Brother. I saw a 7 and big 8 together and two sixes the next day. In the open field, had a nice 10 point chasing Does morning, noon, and night. He also ran off a 4 point. We were looking for culls; just my luck everything else was running wild! confused2

well jus got back. sat am didnt see squat, bucks were definately not rutting. saturday evening, dad got a real nice 8 will post pics asap.. this morning with the front on the way, rut was picking up. several on the lease saw chasin bucks, its only a matter of time i guess. processor said that hamilton county and coryell county bucks are rutting hard and have been breeding. many people rattlin and gettin big boys in even with the ridiculous weather. i dont get why mills county is so behind right now. maybe with a much cooler week ahead of us things will change!

i hunted my place in mills county this afternoon. very, very slow. no rut activity. Did see 12 deer but it was right at dark and they were entering my oat field for the night.

On the contrary, 30 miles away in Hamilton County....i almost got ran over twice opening weekend by bucks chasing does.

I hunt the back side of Walls ranch off 1047 and the bucks have been chasing for 2-3 weeks now. Went running around with Vance Fowler our new game warden in Mills and we both saw several bucks chasing does. This week coming and Thanksgiving week will be the peak. We have one buck taken with a bow as of this weekend. But have saw several nice bucks, With new restrictions need to be a little bit more patient with what you take.
Has anyone that hunts Mills seen any kiity cats? Where have all the Bobcats gone? Have not seen not one since Sept.

In our shop we only got two deer in all weekend. One from Irion county and one from Lamapsas county. Hunters are not seing anything. I hope too that this front will stir things up and get the season going. Nothing on bobcats either so far.

We hunt in Mills Co. south of Zephyr. Took one nice 8pt during October bow but since the first part of Nov it's been very slow. Few shooters seen but only right at dark. Hopefully around TG weekend it will be better. In years past TG weekend has been the best for us.

I concur with Fordtough. Our deer are moving late in the morning and right before dark... odd year! I did take a good buck Saturday ... A tall tined 15 inch 8pt with some ground shrinkage...(thought he was over 16 for sure) but a healthy deer and heavy horned. I was surprised and proud to get him when it was 80 degrees out... got him chasing a doe with 15 minutes of light left. He is going to make into some good sausage smile
