I harvested my first archery deer this past weekend on my lease. Shot a doe at 20 yards from my tree-stand.

I actually got away with a poor shot, as the arrow hit high and back of where I wanted. The doe dropped dead in her tracks, as I guess the arrow severed the spine or some nerves. She couldn't move her back legs at all, but obviously the shot wasn't fatal. I had to climb down and finish her off through the lungs/heart.

I didn't think an arrow could have enough energy to break a deer's back, but I'm very pleased with my broadhead which saved my arse. I was using the G5 Montec CS heads. The bow is tuned perfectly, I just made a poor shot. I think my anchor was off or I torqued the bow do to poor body position.

Anyway, my cherry is broken, so now the addiction is even stronger!

congratulations! bows are more powerful than ever these days. A buddy of mine shot a caribou in the femur (he's usually an excellent shot) and it shattered it. I mean...fragments everywhere like it exploded or something. Massive blood trail too and the thing bled out within 100yds. he was using slick tricks. I've seen a pic of a broadhead lodged in a spine too. at 20yds with a properly tuned bow, you could hit a deer just about anywhere and get great penetration.

Thanks, fellas. Sorry, no pic. I keep forgetting to take a camera to the lease, and before you know it I already had her quartered up.

From now on, I need to take pics for sure because posts are worthless without pics!!

Congratulations on your first bow harvest. You'll never be the same again.
