what do yall prefer to fill first your doe tags or buck? the reason why i ask is cause i know everyone wants to get a buck opening weekend but i prefer to put meat in the freezer first then go after the big one

We have had a couple of bad years so I'll hold out for a good buck (possibly no buck) and see how many does we see, if we don't see many I'll pass on does.

I don't even mess with does anymore unless someone else requests me to shoot one. Will be horns or nothing at all this weekend.

opening morning I'm generally trophy hunting. If I see a cull, I like to take him. Haven't killed a "good" buck in a few years, but man I sure have had some fun watching younger bucks and taking their pictures. I'll probably fill a doe tag Sunday if I see one I want to kill. If not, I'll be going back next weekend and will fill the coolers then. I do try to take a doe early in the year.

i love shootin me a buck with a good rack on it but you always got to remember you cant eat the horns and also with antler restrictions it may make it harder to get a good deer depending on what location you are hunting

I usually hold off for the does until later in the season. Want to keep the shooting down on my place so maybe the surrounding hunters will push em my way. We have extended season for does so I can wait. It really depends on how much I want some backstrap and jerky...and right now I really want some.

Usually don't shoot a doe til the last couple weeks of the season. And when I do, I like to shoot one late in the morning hunt. Gives me plenty of time to clean it while its daylight. I also don't miss sitting around the campfire like I would if I shoot one in the evening.

I hunt in Cass county where we can only shoot does the first 16 days of the season. Therefore i try to take my does first.

I am in Cass County also and I agree with Jayrod. Took a doe this morning at the lease. Gotta get them within the first 16 days of the season.

I get one doe on a LAMPs property in addition to a doe I can harvest on my own land. Since I have the LAMPs option I'm generally not in any hurry to get one, but I definitely take one per season. Gotta fill the freezer.

our lease requires a hunter to shoot a doe before their first buck. it is done in an effort to maintain our ratio where we want it and and guarantees does are harvested. In the past, too manu hunters would not harvest the does. This rule also seems to make the bucks move better during the rut which on our lease begins around December 1st

I hunt jack county, they just went ot a 5 deer county with the antler restriction. So i shot a doe first, and then i took a spike. I've not seen spikes out there till this year. So i went ahead and shot the one i did see. Now i have 1 bigger than 13" buck to get and a couple more does.

We can only take our does Thanksgiving day through Sunday. I took a spike opening day to put some meat in the freezer and get the "skunk out of the boat." I'll try for horns now, and a doe over Thanksgiving weekend. If I make it to the last weekend without a mature buck I'll try to take another spike. We have a few out there that really need killing. One's got an 11" spike on one side only.

As the numbers seem to decrease in Red River Co, we may not take does at all, but dang if we don't like deer meat too. If I haven't taken one somewhere, I will during thanksgiving
